How does the transfer (of points) transaction work?

Hi everyone,

I am a member who is low on points for a trip to be taken in 2014. I see a lot of members who advertise the transfer of points and I am wondering how this transaction takes place. Can someone give me details of the best and safest way to handle this? I want to be smart about it. I know that Disney states this is not allowed to involve monetary transaction, but we all know that this happens, so does anyone have any insight about this for me?

Thanks in advance!

Work out how many points you want transfered from the other member.
One of you needs to conference in MS.
Inform MS what you want to do.
Both of you ID yourselves to MS.
Then have MS, transfer the points.
There are other ways, but these are the steps I used to receive some transfered points.

I would go through paypal and pay the additional service fee. It gives you some insurance in case the deal falls through.

Also
- each side is only allowed 1 transfer per UY
- you won't see the points online unless it's the same UY and resort you own
- banking rules for transferred points are more relaxed, you can bank up to expiration

Thank you so much! Here is another question...Do associate members have the same rights to handle the transfer of points as they do with all other aspects of the account? For instance, if the seller is an associate member on her family's account and I am an associate member on my family's account, we can still do the transaction with no problem?

I transferred points just a month or so ago to another member. She gave me all her account details, like member #, names on the account and their address and phone number.

I was able to do the transfer with MS on my own w/o the other member being on the phone. They asked for all that info, but since I had it the transaction went off w/o a hitch.

Maybe they've changed the procedure?

When I did a transfer it was the same way. I provided the person my name, member number, address and phone # and he was able to do it without having me on the phone. :)

Yeah, I don't think I *need* to be on the phone. The other member and I discussed me being on a three way call just so I know everything is on the "up and up", but I don't think it's necessary for the transaction.

Does anyone know about associate members? I can do anything else with the membership, so I would assume transfers are included...

My transfer was last year. I would not want to give out that information to anyone (especially the last four digits of your SS#) and I would not want to receive that information from anyone else. That is why we did the conference call.

I did a transfer last week. All I needed was membership ID and name. It was very simple.

Thanks everyone! Very excited to get these points so we can have an extra trip to celebrate my college graduation! :cool1:

I was never asked for the other member's SSN or even the last 4. Just member #, names on account, address and phone number.

I guess the only thing "sensitive" was the member number, since we had already exchanged phone numbers and addresses when we spoke on the phone about the transaction and arranged for the payment. But w/o the SSN, last 4 or whatever else MS asks for to verify identity when you call, even having the member # of someone else isn't going to get you very far. I hope!

I guess MS did change the requirements from last year but I need to add:
Give me a person's name, member number, address, and phone number and I can make a reservation with that person's points. :offtopic:

Good to know. Remind me never to give you my data!!!!!!

That is why talking to the other member on the phone prior to the transaction is a good idea. How could I not trust a fellow Disney geek?!;)

This is true, and I think is worth mentioning again.

It was my first transfer, in or out (never renter before either), so I was a little nervous.

The buyer, who is a board member here, contacted me and then we spoke a couple of times. During those conversations, we talked about things Disney and shared some stories of our vacations. Plus, since I was sending her VGC points to use there, and since her family had never been to DLR, I was happy to pass along some tips on the parks there.

Point is, we trusted each other based on what we could learn about each other under the circumstances. She even sent me a check which we agreed I deposit and then wait 2 weeks to make sure it had cleared, and only then do the transfer.

Having some level of trust with the other party was very important to me, and I was happy to deal with someone so nice, and also that my points will allow her family to have a new set of memories at DLR.

OP here...

We did the transfer tonight without me on the call. I met the other owner on another forum (gasp) and it was her first transfer transaction, though her family had been members since 2008. We emailed back and forth a lot and then spoke on the phone. I verified her membership on the Orange County Comptroller's office and then (I will admit) did a little "google research" to make sure her story added up. They made the call without me on it and then I called and made my reservation. She just needed my name and member number.

Thanks for all the help!

I did this last week all I needed was their member number and name . I called myself . It was so easy .

I did the funds transfer through pay pal like all my exchanges . Ask them to send the pay pal as an instant transfer , I did not get charged any fees this way . Sometimes they charge the fee but usually they don't if you have them instant transfer the money via pay pal .

How do you do an "instant" transfer. I am looking at doing a paypal payment soon but can't see how to avoid fees after looking on the paypal site.
Thanks

Chris

No need of ss#
