How does the Movie with Chip & Dale at Ft. Wilderness work?

I went to the campfire and movie at Ft. Wilderness with the sing-a-long hosted by Chip and Dale back in the 1970's.

Has anyone been lately? What is the best way to do this activity?

I'm staying at the Poly, but want to go look at the camp grounds to scout for a future trip. So i'm looking for a plan to maybe eat at Wilderness Lodge and then maybe catch the outdoor movie that evening.

Also another person mentioned that you can buy marshmallows or S'more makings to roast on the fire. But FW transportation can be tricky?

the sing along and campfire lighting is first (before the movie starts - generally around dusk-ish). there are benches and bleachers where you can sit (hard as rocks) and you can bring your own folding chairs if you like and sit in the flat grassy areas to the sides of the bench area.

they have a chuck wagon behind the bleachers where you can by snack stuff like popcorn, drinks and if you like, fixens for smores (mellos, choc bar, graham crackers - even a stick i think.) you are welcome to bring your own snacks and smores fixens if you like.

if you want to take a look at the campground, go over at least an hour (i would say 2 maybe even) before the sing along is to start. from the Poly you could either monorail or boat to MK then take the boat to FW. if you want to just get a glimps of the most primo campsites - you could just stroll back thru the center of the front part of the campground and check out the first loops to your right and left (walk thru path in center of campground entrance - between camp store and the hoopdeedoo area - come to an intersection - where the busses drop folks off for the dock/hoopdeedoo - and cross over into the camping loop area. a 5-10 min walk)
or - if you want a more comprehensive look at the entire campgroud, you could walk or catch one of those busses (behind the hoopdeedoo) to the bike/golf cart barn. OR - just stay on the bus (the one that only takes you thru the campground - not the ones that take you to parks/other resorts) and you can look out the windows at all the camping loops and the cabin loop areas.) Note that FW does a great job of hiding their camp loops from view on the main road thru the campground.

NOTE: to get to the campfire/singalong - you will have to take a bus (again you can catch it behind the hoopdeedoo) to the middle of the campground. your driver will be happy to tell you what stop you need. (you will see the 2nd camp store - the bike barn and the campfire area is right behind that store)

My DH and I go to the campfire all the time. It's so much fun! We bring our own smores stuff from home and buy the sticks at the chuck wagon. They aslo have pizza and hot dogs there.
If you're planning to eat at WL first, you can easily catch a bus over to the campground from there, or if you're the active type, there is a great trail that connects WL to Fort Wilderness. It's about a fifteen minute walk. It's not lit though, so if you plan on walking back and you don't like the dark, bring a flashlight!

There is a lot of information/tips about getting around FW on the camping section of this forum. They also post the monthly schedule of the movies being shown at the campfire there as soon as it is published.
We really enjoyed FW last year. :thumbsup2
