How does the Magical express work?

How do they know whos luggage is whos and such? How does it work?

They send yellow DME luggage tags.
But, they only send a couple of them.
Some guests request additional yellow tags.

BUT-

All you really need to do is hand your regular airline luggage tags to the DME clerk.
(No need to actually use the yellow tags>)

They pick up your bags based on either kind of info (yellow tags or your regular airline baggage checks)
and deliver your bags to your room.

You attach the Magical luggage tags they mail you to your luggage. Airport baggage handlers grab anything with the bright yellow Magical tag and hand it over to special Disney World baggage handlers when it arrives at the airport. Then Disney takes it from there and uses the information on the tag to deliver it directly to your resort room.

The rules are you that must ride the Magical Express bus to take advantage of the direct-to-room luggage service. However, many people find that even if they don't physically ride the bus their luggage gets to their room all the same.

They send you luggage tags with your name & resort on it, and a bar code that's linked to your reservation. You put them on your luggage when you check it into your airline. Disney employees grab your luggage at some point between the plane & baggage claim and put it on a bus and deliver it to the resort.

Simple.

what are the hours on the Magical express?

They run 24 hours, but they won't pick up luggage past about 10pm (not sure on the exact time). If your plane is coming in later than that, you have to grab your luggage from the carousel yourself and drag it down to the bus. They'll load it under the bus, and it'll go to your resort with you.

We'll be coming in just past midnight, so that's what we'll be doing.

Oh Ok.. SO how does leaving work with the luggage? Leave it in the room or somewhere else?

No, you take it down to Bell Services in your resort. If you're travelling within the continental US, and not too early or too late, you can actually check your luggage right through to your destination at your resort. But otherwise, you just drag your luggage down to the bus with you, and check it at the airport, same as you normally would.

We plan on having some time in the parks before we go so sounds like the bell service is what I would use. Which airlines can you check in for? We use Southwest.

With Southwest, when you are ready to leave your resort, you check your luggage in there at the resort and won't see it again until you claim it at the baggage claim in your home airport. Nice and easy.

When we were staying at POFQ there was a separate ME desk that we took our bags to the day of check out. Is it now combined with the bell desk?

You can also call bell services, esp if you are staying in a building a good distance from front desk. At POR they sent a man with a golf cart to pick up our luggage. You MUST ride with your luggage to the front. Once they check your luggage in, you can do whatever you want, go to parks, pool, DTD. You don't have to worry about your bags after that. We spent last Tuesday at the pool, and when we landed in Boston our bags were there with everyone else's from our flight.

When checking in at the resort do they give you something to track your luggage just in case it gets lost?

I arrived at BWV today and was in the room when the luggage was delivered. I went to the door, the cm has a handheld machine and scans a bar code on the inside of your door frame to indicate where it was delivered. So if the luggage is accidentally delivered to the wrong room, they have tracking.

My flight landed around noon, I checked in around 1:30, it was delivered around 4:30.

The bus route was Yacht Club > Beach Club > Boardwalk > CBR

The Magical Express is neither Magical nor Express. We just cab it these days which is much more efficient.

If you are out of your room, will they still deliver your luggage and leave it in the room for you? Or do you have to pick it up from bell services?

The Magical Express is our favourite way to start our vacation. I love strolling up to the nice smiling cast member and finding our line. Never had to wait long, either. And the bus is SO comfortable. Plus, the cartoons they play for us get us right in the mood.

For us, it's magical! I still remember the time our bus paused at a stop light, and all of a sudden the sky lit up with fireworks and the bus driver said, "Welcome to Disney!" The looks on the little kids' faces around us was wonderful, as was hearing everyone saying, "Ooooh!"

I'd much rather save the money I'd spend on a cab, and use it for a nice meal.

This is one of the services that I can't wait for. I'm the only driver in my family, and we are not renting a car, so the ability to just sit back and have someone else drive is foreign to me, lol.
