How Does Song Re-assign Delta Seats?

We will probably never get the exact answer directly from Delta Airlines, but here is an unscientific method. For those of you who want to help out with your two cents worth, we will try to collect as replies to this thread actual experiences of what seats you originally reserved on Delta or Delta Express and what seats you were initially moved to when the flight was designated a Song flight. With enough information we can probably guess how it will be done for future flights!

The seat layout and row numbering for Song's (757) planes is different than that for Delta Express'.

When I checked my itinerary on the Delta site, it showed my flights changed to Song but my seat assignment was not changed over. I called Delta to make sure I had seats where I wanted.

Since the rows/seat maps for SONG will be different, usually the computer will re issue seats and try to group them together. It seems that whenever the computer does seat assignments, it moves you to the back of the plane.
My flight was moved to song and the computer showed no seat selected ( they tell you that even though your seats do not show up they are still in the Delta system).
I called SONG and they were happy to give me new seats, moved me from row 30 to 4.
You need to check your flight on line to see if your flight has moved to SONG and then call to have the seats reissued.

My flights are not until Nov 29 and Dec 7 from Boston. They are non-stops. There have been no changes thus far. But when I booked this flight, the airplane was already a 757.

Guess I can answer my own question partly.

Checked my own flights (Nov.) and found the "taken" seats all evenly filled in starting at the front of the plane but skipping the wing exit rows. My original seats were over the wings. One flight had few enough passengers that nothing over the wings and rearward was selected. But my own itinerary (on Delta.com) showed me as "unassigned" for both flights with no button to click to do new assignments myself.

(4/14) Checked a few other new Song flights and they too were packed in solid starting at the front presumably with the former Delta Express passengers, apparently arbitrarily and automatically. So just about everyone wishing to call and change seats will probably find it difficult to move towards the front.

Mine has now finally changed too just as the previous poster stated.

I just hope I have good seats!!******UPDATE******

I called Delta last night and they re-assigned me seats.

Going down I had my pick so we are in row 3 and coming home it's was almost full so we have row 23. At least we are all together which is the most important thing to me!!

Our flight finally switced over to Song today. We're flying Aug 16-23 from Boston to MCO. We are leaving at the same time from Boston but leaving Orlando an hour earlier. No problem here. However, when it came to assigned seats, we showed up as unassigned. I called Song today. Spoke with a very nice rep. who said I should could get my seats now. But......all rows, from 1-28 were taken up already. She couldn't figure that out. We were in row 3 on Delta and now are in row 30!!! She said to keep calling Song and checking Delta's site. If and when the other seats open up we can change them. The fare is up to almost $500 as compared with the 199 I paid last Sept!!! Could they be saving those forward seats for the higher fares??? I'll check back in if I can get the seats changed.

Goofy4tink - Yours is the exact situation as ours - our dates are Aug 17-25. Its a good things we checked this today - our flight down is pretty full and I'm relieved that even though we ended up at the back of the plane at least we are all together. Let's hope this is the last of the changes!

Momof2....at this point I'm not even sure I'll try to change my seats...too many other things to obsess over!!! But I sure was happy with my row 3 seats originally! Where are you staying?

Being my obsessive self, I just rechecked Delta and my flights. My seats have been changed from row 30 to row 15!! Only on the way to Orlando tho. Not sure how this happened, but it wasn't changed at 6 am, now it is!! I'll keep checking and let you all know.

Goofy4tink - I agree with you that its not worth stressing over because there really isn't anything we can do about it - just a little hassle that will all be forgotten with that first walk down Main Street. :p

Our flight had a minor schedule change (15 mins later--no biggie), but an equipment change. This isn't song, but is Delta. I knew that after the time change chances were good that something would change with a flight.

While checking our itinerary last night, I noticed that our "seat assignments" were kicked out due to the schedule change. I immediately called Delta and was informed that our new seat assignments were in row 31!!!! I was not at all pleased and knew my husband would have a hissy. (Which he did by the way.)

When I booked this flight, I chose it for the plane configuration and seat availability--yeah, yeah, I know, things change. . . Anyway we had row 12 and 13 with one seat across the aisle (5 total). This would give us two windows and 3 aisle seats. We wouldn't be crawling all over each other or others wouldn't be crawling over us. Further, we were only 2 rows behind first class and would, therefore get off the doggoned plane faster. Additionally, white knuckle flyer husband wouldn't be over the wings--which he hates--can't stand the noises associated with wing seats--aelerons(sp) (flaps) moving, etc.

So, where does the computer move us directly on the wings' rear side at the point of the aelerons(sp)! Will Delta change our seats--NOPE--they have no access to any other seats. So now, out of 45 rows we're stuck near the rear and in my husband's least desired location (other than rear). We complained all the way up the chain and got nothing--just the comment that we could "try and change our seat assignments at the gate"--in other words, fat chance.

This is such a minor thing for most people, but it really burns me because when we booked this flight, there were very few seats sold so ours were some of the first! I don't know how that computer goes about reassigning, but it certainly isn't based upon ticket purchase! It also can't be based upon preferences--remember we had two windows and three aisle seats.

One last complaint while I'm venting--the plane's economy class is booked solid--if economy doesn't begin until row 20 (which is what the rep told me)--what have they done with all the other folks on the larger plane originally listed? The original equipment was a 2-5-2 that began at row 10 and it was fairly full when I checked on Friday. My guess is this flight will be oversold since the size of the plane was reduced. We have a very tight connection and won't be checking in early--I will be even less happy with Delta if for some reason we aren't on that flight. Guess that will teach me to alter the plans that have always worked before--we almost always fly early a.m. rather than late a.m. With 5 of us, we really wanted the original configuration--should have stuck with those early flights. . .

Anyway, if someone figures out the "mind of the computer" reassigning seats, let me know! I'd like to outwit it to get what I originally booked! :D

When I checked my itinerary on delta.com this morning, I found that my August departure from LGA was switched from noon to 10:35AM. No big deal. The bad news was that our departure was switched from 5:05PM (2:00PM flight is sold out) to 8:20PM, not great with little kids.

What burns me is that if not for this board, there is no telling when they would have gotten around to notifying me. I had a great rental rate with National, which I will probably lose now since my reservation will require an extra day.

The only plus is that I was able to get row 2 for both flights.

Jet Blue is looking better every day now.

goofy4tink, it sounds like were on the same filght from Bos/ Mco and back. I checked Delta Saturday morning, and they were showing the new configuration for the Song flights. They still had our party of 5 listed with our old seat assignments, which would have put us about 20 feet behind the plane, in rows that no longer exist. I suspect they didn't bother reassigning a lot of people, because on Friday there were very few open seats left, but on Saturday they had about 30. Now they are almost all gone again, they are back to about 15 open.
And I'm really glad I bought my tickets when I did, my tickets were $237, now up to $489.

**edit** goofy4tink- if we are on the same flight (7:20 AM?) they bumped you up because they already put my party of 5 in row 30 for that flight 2 days ago. Nobody in my party really cares where they sit, as long as the kids get a window.

You guys are making me very nervous! When I try to check my August flight from Logan to MCO, I am asked for my 12 digit confirmation number. The confirmation number I have is six digits. I tried entering my flight number and date of flight and am told it doesn't exist! Arrrgggghhh. I am not a skymiles member but still, checking my flight should be easier than this! Can I expect an e-mail from Delta if my flight is changed in anyway? At least when I flew USAir, I got notified constantly.

Can someone give me a tutorial on checking my flight? I am traveling with a disabled child and don't need any complications.

Thank you!

MEM Call 1-800-FLY-SONG and give them all the info. I have had to chage both my flights and they have been very helpful.
For some reason the confirmation number did not help . I am a skymiles member and when the reservation came up, it still said no seats assigned. They give you new seats, but it does not show up till you contact them.

Gallaj0, yep, that's my flight....#2519. We'll look for you all in row 30 and wave from row 15. Man, I hate flying on the wing. But, I'm going to WDW so it will soon be forgotten.

goof4tink- I PM'd you about Illumination cruises. Get back to me if you want to.
