We have stayed at the Poly several times and just stayed at the Royal Pacific. We'd go back to both in a heartbeat! We usually only make it over to Universal every 3 years because DH gets so relaxed at Disney that we just don't get around to it. He can't WAIT to go back to stay at RP for a couple of days.
RP rooms are smaller, but very nice. No problem with 2 of us, but those with kids might enjoy the larger Poly rooms. RP does have some type of "kid rooms", but I didn't pay any attention to them. Prices are going to be less than the Poly, especially with something like a
AAA discount.
Colors were dark, but fine. Very comfy beds, and there's a couch in rooms with a King bed, which is great. Internet hookup in the room, with keyboard at ~ $10 per 24 hrs.
Service seemed very good ..... there were a couple people who gave us some wrong information, but we have found that at Disney, too. Housekeeping did a great job.
We thought the front lobby and grounds were lovely. RP is new, and looks new. Very large pool/beach area. This hotel is high rise and spread out in 3 wings, so there's not the same feeling of walking between the buildings at night. Don't expect it to be the same..... I know that many people like it better. We were VERY impressed.
Our room was almost the furthest distance from the pool and water taxi, but only ~ 5 minutes. There's a lovely walkway to CityWalk. Restaurant selections are great -- very good continental breakfast selections in the lobby; a buffet and a place to get very good sandwiches (and drinks); and Emerils ---- this was so much fun and worth the $$$$$$
I really can't recall a snack bar/quick service ......... could have been somewhere ..... ? at the pool ........ sorry, I just don't know. It's very convenient to City Walk, with a big variety of places to eat, and the other 2 resorts are nearby. I'd definitely recommend you give RP a try.
