How does PIN trading work?

My son loved pin trading this year. He got a ton of pirate pins. Anything, anyone in a pirate outfit and he was picking it.

I have a question about the Hidden Mickeys. We bought several off ebay. Very good deals. We let him trade what he wanted. We kind of collect what we like. So my question.....are the Hidden Mickey pins worth more? We saved several that we bought off ebay. We figured they were not super valuable because of what we payed.

Does anyone have a great website about trading. I have official Disney site.

It is an American flag pin with Mickey. He asked and got permission beforehand to make sure it was allowed. It is NOT on his lanyard. It is on his uniform. Well "was" on his uniform. He's no longer going to wear it. No big deal...he just liked it.
I remember after 9/11 a lot of Cast Members started wearing those pins on their uniforms, although not sure how many of them still wear them today. Anyway the funny thing is that pin is sold at any of the pin trading locations, so it's not like the guests could not purchase them. I assume this was the pin he was wearing, because this is the one I saw on the Cast Member uniforms.

That's the one. You're good!! :thumbsup2

It's really too bad that he can't wear it anymore. It took us 11 years for him to get his citizenship (he's from Peru originally and has lived here for over 20 years). He's very proud of being an american. Ah well...he'll just wear it on his lanyard when we go on his days off. :)

You're welcome and the funny thing is that is one the 1st pins I ever purchased and that's going back to May 2001 when I started pin collecting/trading. So if your husband does not know tell him the guests who asked to trade it to him could have purchased it at any location which sells pins.

I know absolutely nothing about pin trading, so this thread is quite informative. I do have to say, however, that we purchased a number of pins on our last two trips and I didn't want to trade any of them! :rotfl2: I purchased them specificially because I liked them, then didn't want to trade any away. I have to say that I too have the same Mickey head pin (red, white and blue). I purchased it either in 2005 or 2006, so they were for sale even then. I believe they had them for sale representing a number of countries. I also have an Irish one!

That gives me a great idea. I am going to eBay to look for a Norwegian Mickey Head Pin!!!

I too have bought pins that I liked/loved and I don't want to trade those, so I bought some online and now have some inexpensive ones for trading purposes.

Do you have a Disney store near you? I don't know whether this discount is still valid but last Wednesday ours had pins and starter sets for 50% off. The starter set (blue lanyard with white Mickey heads + 2 Mickey pins) was originally $ 9.50; the pins were mostly $9.50 and $5.50.

bradk wasn't kidding. Pin trading is serious business. Take no prisoners.

DS was really into this and leaned a lot about business, IMO...how people will sucker you with a kind word and a smile, how to stick to your guns, how not to trust people, how to get what you want, etc. But he learned a few of those lessons the hard way.

If you're one of those parents who will be devastated and angry if someone suckers your kid and the kid is all brokenhearted over their pin, stick with the CMs.

It gets expensive, too. :faint:
