How does one start a pin collection?
We're going in July, and my boys want to collect either smushed coins or pins. I found a website through passporter that tells where all the coin smushers are. So Now I'd like some info on pins. How does one trade pins? Does one just go up to someone with a pin and ask to trade? Is there pin ettiquette? What are the best pins to start out with? What are the best kinds of lanyards to have to just start out? Thanks,

You can trade any Disney pin with a cast member that is wearing a lanyard. Some CMs wear blue or pink lanyards, which are for kids only. There is no quick rule of thumb toward what's the best for trading. I would recommend to start that you pick a theme that you like. IE: Donald Duck, MIckey Mouse, etc. It can get very expensive otherwise. You might start out trading just with CMs until you get the hang of it. Some guests wear lanyards, but they're for show, not trade. So if you ask a guest to trade, they may not, but don't let that get you down!

You can also check out the official disney pin trading site , it has the "rules" for trading with CMs. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Smushed coins are cheaper and there's less of them!!!!

How old are your boys? Below a certain age, they might do better with the pressed coins...and it will cost you wwwaaayyyy less.

I think when the kids get up to about eight, you may have better luck with pintrading. They're usually old enough to understand the basic concepts, and mature enough to figure out what themes they like. Without some idea of the rules, and some focus to their trading, they will <b>make you crazy!</b> (Speaking from <i>experience!</i>)
