We live in NC and want to rent a bigger vehicle for the trip from NC to WDW. How does it work when you rent a vehicle from one state to another and not just around a speciffic area?

Will you be driving it back to NC or will you return it in Orlando? There's usually a pretty hefty price jump if you do not return it to the original location. Most rentals these days have unlimited miles and no restrictions on going out of state - but verify that before hand.

You may be able to get a slight discount if you do not pick up the car at an airport as many cities have "airport" fees.

Just make sure you get unlimited mileage, and you may need to inform them about being out of state, depending upon insurance

Check with Undercover Tourist. If you have ever bought park tickets from them, or need them now, you are eligible for the rental car discounts. We rented an intermediate SUV (ended up with a Mazda CX-3) from Grand Rapids to HHI and back...10 days total...and we paid $314. On top of that, there was an AMEX offer for a $20 statement credit for the purchase from UCT and I also earned eBates on the purchase. We typically rent from Budget/Avis because they do not charge extra for your spouse to drive the vehicle.

Carefully check the rental company rules for your specific car class or discount class. In a few cases, just some classes and rates have out of state restrictions (geographical restrictions). Example, you are restricted to the state of rental plus bordering states.
