I am curious about how DVC is set up for a new timeshare owner? I would love to get in on DVC but am not sure if we would be getting in over our heads. I read in another post about NY'ers not being able to purchase VWL <--What does this mean? Ok have I asked enough? HeeeeLLLppppp!

Oh BTW I called and am having info sent but would like someone who is currently an owner to give me an idea of what we are looking at. :D

Huooobba!!!!!

hi: welcome to the boards. i'll try to give you just a little help. there is a section for faq on this board which will answer many of your questions. dvc is best for people who usually vacation at least once every 3 years (or more often like many of us) and like the deluxe type of accommodations. you will be purchasing a real estate interest (number of points) that you will be using for your room. you aren't locked into any particular week/time for your trips. the different dvc resorts at wdw require a different amount of points per night of your stay, depending on which type of unit you would like-studio,1br, 2br, or gv(grand villa). there are also different "seasons" during the year that will cost varying amounts of points. if you buy directly from disney, then your home resort would be vwl-villas at wilderness lodge, where you would get to make your reservations as far as 11 months out from your vacation date. all of the other dvc resorts could only be reserved at 7 months out. your best guideline is to buy where you plan to stay the most. as far as dvc not being able to sell vwl in ny state yet, i think they are just waiting to get ny state approval for vwl sales. you can check with your guide as far as their estimated time for being able to sell in ny. as far as getting in over your head, you will have to sit down and see if your finances can handle the payments. when we bought at bwv originally, disney had the best finance rate for a 10 year loan. when we purchased a 150 point add-on at bwv last fall, our bank was able to give us a better rate on the loan. if you read the faq and have specific questions, just post. dee

Marsupilami,

VWL stands for Villas at Wilderness Lodge, the only WDW property being offered by DVC. Two other locations are also being offered, HH (Hilton Head Island) and VB (Vero Beach).

You will get MUCH more information from these boards than from the information DVC sends you. Try to read the boards as much as possible.

DVC is not yet licensed to sell VWL in New York via phone/mail. :( Your current options through DVC are buying HH or VB via mail & phone or you can buy VWL at any of the Disney resorts. You can also buy a resale for OKW (Old Key West) or BWV (Boardwalk Villas).

If you have any questions, just ask and you will get some great advice from all the folks who read these boards.

Before your first trip to DVC, I've heard that you should ask Rich where you can get some little blue ressies. :D
