How does getting luggage transferred on a split stay work?

We are staying at Music for 3 days and then transferring to Port Orleans Riverside for 5 days. How does the baggage transfer thing work? I assume we take our luggage up to the office and ask for a transfer, but how does it get from ASM to POR and what would timing look like?

You cannot expect to get your bags until after official check in time at the second resort. Make sure you have everything you'll need for the day with you.

Just call Bell Services and let them know what your plans are. Keep in mind that you need to be in your room when they deliver your luggage. It works differently than DME.

We give our luggage to bell services. We'll have everyone's swimsuits in our park bags and head out to the parks. Then when we're ready to check in at the new resort, I check in, my husband asks at bell services if the luggage is there, if it is and our room is ready we grab it, if it isn't we go for a swim and check back later. Last year our room was ready around noon time and our luggage made it to BWV from the Poly around 4pm. It is really easy as long as you're not needing your things and you remember to keep everything you need with you. If that makes you anxious, have one person take the luggage via taxi to POR and leave it there with bell services.

All great advice above.

Basic process is:
1) call Bell Services and tell them you'd like to have your luggage transferred to POR
Alternatively, take you stuff to Bell Services yourself. At Music, that will probably save you some time.
2) Bell Services will tag your stuff and give you claim checks for the items
3) You are now free to go about your day
4) Bags transfers across all Resorts typically don't happen until around 3pm.
5) Your bags should reach POR by 4pm, but it could take longer.
6) When you arrive at POR, you can check with Bell Services to see if the bags are there
7) Either have Bell Services deliver the bags to your room (generally, you have to call them from your room to do this) or pick the bags up yourself from Bell Services and schlep them to your room.

It's very simple and can all be yours for the low, low cost of tipping Bell Services a couple of times.

Enjoy,
Steve

we do this often.
It is easiest to plan for a full park day on moving day
I get up, get ready, call bell services for luggage transfer
Head to the park.
Return to our next resort.
Bags have arrived by then so we just call for them when in our room
Super easy and we don't need to haul a thing around, we left them move everything.

If we have an early dinner planned and want to get changed we put whatever we need for that in hand luggage and take it to bell services at the new resort. Luggage can get there really late like after 6pm so it's best to be prepared if dinner is important

Bell services always directs me to the valet outside, for transferring bags.

Depends where you are staying. At some resorts bell services are located outside of the resort entrance. Works out to be the same thing. You have the option of having them pick up your bags from your room at the cost of a tip.

Contemporary bell service desk (inside the lobby) told me to go outside to the valet. Was just pointing that out.

Probably varies from resort to resort but the concept is the same..

We actually just transferred from PORFQ to ASSP, got back to the resort around 9:00 and our luggage was already in the room. I was expecting to have to call to get it sent up, so that was a nice surprise.

Possibly because it was late in the day. Regardless a nice surprise.

First time we did a split stay I thought it was like DME, and the bags would appear in our room. We got to our room, bags not there... no biggie I'd packed what we needed... we headed to the pool, came back, still no bags, Ok, went & grabbed dinner... came back still no bags. I finally called, and they nicely informed me I needed to call them when I was ready for delivery. Lesson learned :). We've done it a few times since, and have had no issues. They make it super easy.

We did our first split stay at the beginning of February. I was VERY nervous about the bag process, even after reading all the great details on these boards. I just want to add my voice to the chorus and say it went off without a hitch. Everything got where it was supposed to be and we were free to enjoy the day. I will likely split stay again, and have no worries about my bags.

I just knew there must of been such a service offered by the Disney Resorts, but we had a different experience last year at the Polynesian. We had a split stay and when asked if they offered a service that could transfer our luggages to our next resort (AKL), they (concierge and valet) both told us.. not really! They suggested us taking a taxi or the bus?! Since we didn't want to pay 30-40$ just to get to AKL, we had no choice but to transport all of our luggages with us on the bus.. I'm not sure if the cast members just weren't aware of this service or the Polynesian itself doesn't offer it, but I just thought it didn't make sense and how absurd a Deluxe Resort couldn't offer such service!

Now, reading this post and knowing there IS actually such service, makes me upset that we even had to go through all that trouble transferring from one resort to another.. :sad2:

I have been using it for years at various resorts including the Poly. Sorry you had to go through the hassle due to incorrect info.

That is awful... I always just call bell services from my room. I had heard you couldn't bring luggage on Disney transportation (buses, monorail * boats) except DME.

That is completely bizarre!

Especially since the buses don't allow luggage. So it's even weirder that just a year ago you were allowed to take the bags on the bus. (And what bus? They don't have inter-resort buses so did you have to go to a park or Disney springs first to transfer?)

But FYI the taxi shouldn't have cost even $30. We went from MK (parking lot) to AKL for something like $12.

Weird question...did you ask concierge and valet in person, or did you call them?
