How does Gay Days affect the crowds in the parks?

First off, let me start this post by saying that I'm NOT trying to avoid gays/lesbians. I'm simply trying to avoid extra large crowds...regardless of the makeup. :)

I was thinking about taking my son on a high school graduation trip from May 31, 2009 until June 7, 2009. I just realized that Gay Days fall during that time frame.

How will this affect crowd levels in the Disney parks? How about the Universal parks? Will I need to book a room super early?

Thanks for any info. :)

Booking early is a good idea anytime of year at WDW. As far as crowd levels, really the only noticable effect would probably be the MK on Saturday, June 6th. The Disney Studios will also be busier because of Star Wars Weekends. As far as Universal, the traditional day is Sunday, but that is also EPCOT day...so overall, since the crowd is split, and many are flying home, there should be no problem Sunday.

Also, because of the late-night events that happen as part of Gayday, the MK on Sunday can vary. It tends to be empty first thing in the morning, then get busier into the afternoon. After the 3:00 parade, it tends to empty out some as the folks there for the events go get ready for that night's party :thumbsup2

I think it would be a wonderful time to visit WDW with your teen son. If there is one thing that a teen needs to learn it's that his parent(s) will love and accept her or him unconditionally. Therefore, if being within the Gay Days celebrations prompts any level of discussion it will be the perfect opportunity to show your child true acceptance and tolerance for all people, eh? :teeth:

Go. Have a great time.

There are schedules posted regarding the events so you can make your own schedule to offset any potentially large crowds you may want to avoid.

Thanks everyone for the info. :) It doesn't sound like the crowds will be any worse than the remainder of the summer, and hopefully a lot of children will still be in school.
