How Does Food Work

If you like potato chips as a snack (for movies or otherwise), there is a big bowl of individual bags of chips by Pluto's, where they have the condiments set out for the burgers. My girlfriend and I took several of those little bags back to our stateroom to have on hand as snacks. Also, if you like granola, you can get the little boxes of it at the breakfast buffet -- I think they make a great snack too :)
Fantastic FYI. You should save a lot of people a lot of money.:thumbsup2

oh gees i can't wait hehehe

dh and i have already talked about ordering coffee, toast and muffins to the room so we can sit out at sunrise before the kids get up then go have breakfast and at night order in a "midnight" treat and coffee to sit on the balcony and relaxe before bed.

will be the only "we" time we'll get LOL

Let's see. You wake up and reach for the phone and order coffee and rolls - included (they may not arrive for a bit, though and you should tip). You finish your shower and want a more substantial breakfast, you eat a sit down meal at Tritons/Lumiere's (included), you order a mimosa with breakfast (billed to your room). You feel a little hungry a bit later and swing though the breakfast buffet at Topsiders/BBB or Parrot Cay for a little snack of granola and yogurt, included. Its getting to be lunch time. You review the sit down menu at Lumiere's (included) and decide you'd rather eat up by the pool. You have a lunch from the buffet, including a dessert. About three o'clcock you could use a little nosh - they have cookies out by the beverage station (cookies and beverages included), or you can get pizza, burgers, tacos, sandwiches or salads from the counter service places (included) or soft serve ice cream (included). You decide to skip all this and head over to The Cove where you have a latte (not included) followed by a stop at the nearby adult pool bar for the drink of the day (not included, but the drink of the day is usually under $5). You get ready for dinner and have FOUR courses (included) and a bottle of wine (not included). Your husband can't decide between the chicken dish or the ribs, so the waiter brings both (included). Your son orders a Shirley Temple (included) but your daughter talks you into a smoothie (not included). After dinner you go to the movie theatre where your son gets a box of candy (not included) and you have a martini (not included). You go back to the room and order cookies for the kids from roomservice (included) and a cheese platter for yourselves (included).

Then you explode.

That's definitely the thing about cruising -- you eat b/c it's here, there and every where. Even when you're not hungry, it's offered...and you never get offered that for free at home, so why not! And I don't feel bad about it for one second; that's why they're called vacations :thumbsup2

In fact, this just reminded me of our cruise where for 10 minutes DH lost sight of me at the shops. When he found me, despite having just partaken of some free nachos at Diversions, I was popping a box of cherry sours like they were going out of style and guzzling diet coke. Look...as long as I was buying things...and it's not my fault they put a snack bar right next to the stores. Course all that candy and coke gave me a wicked case of the sticky spit, so I guess I learned my lesson....always include a starch.

Seriously? They serve martinis at the movie theatre? Sounds deadly.;)

You get them from the promenade bar about 50 feet down the hall, as I recall.
However, at the Walt Disney theatre where you see the shows, you walk by the bar (and candy) to get to your seat, and the waitstaff walks around with beverages for sale.

Cruising teaches you want its like to be a Hobbit, with second breakfast and elevensies.

I'm glad someone mentioned the little snacks they have in Diversions (usually at game times): Nachos, hot dogs, wings, etc., etc.: all included; the drinks to wash them down: not included!!

Just to clarify...the Promenade Lounge is on Deck 3 and the entrance to the Buena Vista Theater is on Deck 5. The PL is the closest bar to the BV Theater. You can certainly stop by the lounge and pick up a drink on your way, it just is a little further than down the hall.

I couldn't remember - it isn't far.....

(If you think you might want pop in your room, room service does charge for it. Some people bring a bottle and fill it at the beverage station and keep it in the cooler in the room).

My bold.

And when in Cove Cafe, don't forget to get yourself a few of the pastries in the glass case (included), to have with your latte!

We like to put out the breakfast room service slip the night before. This way instead of waking up to an alarm, room service knocks with a pot of coffee.

That's a great idea about the room service. Glad to know that you can do this.

Actually they now call you before they head to your room, which I really appreciate. I didn't like waking to the knock as I had no time to pull myself together. This way we're up a few minutes before they arrive with our order.

what sort of diet?

diabetic

Both DH and I. I am good about it and watch it pretty well. I was just wondering if there will be plenty of options to pick from.
And just sugar free isn't really the issue. It is any refined carbs that set off the sugar highs. So flour, etc.
I can make wise choices, if given the options. I plan on packing a lot of treats for us.
DH is not good about making wise choices ;)

Wow. So if you never left the boat, all your food would be paid for?

What about Palo's or whatever the fancy restaurant is?

We just got back today...believe me...you will gain 10 lbs or more if you are not carefull.

You also mentioned food on land...

when you go out on land...come back at lunch time, grab a quick "free" lunch from the ship and then go out again. We did in both st. maarten and St. thomas. it was great and free. Also, grab an apple on your way out and eat it on the island as well.

Now on Castaway Cay, no worries. all the food is included at cookies bbq.

Have a great trip.

Jim

Nice to know that the "free" food applies to Castaway Cay as well. We aren't worried about gaining weight. I mean, that's part of the experience of a Disney vacation we're learning. :)

Couple questions....when getting soda from the soda station do the cups have lids and straws? Just wondering if my kids can safely carry them around without spills. And can we bring our own plastic mugs and fill those? Any microwaves onboard? My kids LOVE micro popcorn :) Oh and is there a place to get chocolate milk throughout the day or is that just in the dining rooms?

Yep, bring your own mugs! No problem! But also they do have lids and straws as well!

Think you may be out of luck w/ the microwave though!

Does this include drinks as well when on Castaway Cay?

Your first post........... Welcome to the DIS!!

Non-alcoholic (soda, etc. at Cookies) - yes. If you order anything (including soda) from any of the bars on the island, there is a charge, just like on the ship.
