How does Disney decide who gets codes?

Just curious maybe someone can answer this for me. When I call Disney and ask if there are any pins or codes "attached" to my name, the CM's always tell me that's not how it works. I'll get a postcard, I can't call and ask as there is no way for them to check:confused3 . Yet I hear about people calling and finding out about pins and codes being attached all the time? Just curious?

Same here. I just called and the CM told me that there was no way to know that, that it would be sent to our home address.

Did I just get a CM that does not know? or should I ask in different words?

We will be going in May/June so a code would be nice.

I would call again!
I never got anthing in the mail, nor did I know I even had a pin.
My maiden name and my current married name are both under the same address. Though my maiden name had a pin, and I never knew until I asked her to CHECK my old name!

I also have to add this...
Every few weeks I'll get a card in the mail, like someone described in the above posts... It's a suitcase and you open it and mine is always for a value resort for very select dates. Now this comes under my MARRIED name. When I've called Disney asking about this, they still say that 'no pin is attached'
Sometimes I think this pin thing is all a scam really. :confused3
It's almost like they are giving it to certain people if they call enough times, I don't know.. It just doesn't make sense.
I wonder why a "pin" was attached to my old last name and I was able to use this pin anytime this whole year, that doesn't seem right... I dunno...

I forgot to add that the PIN was in the last line on the inside page under the section with the phone number. Yes it was for value resort and specific dates.

It's just the CM you got. They see a pin attached to certain names! When my CM checked my whole family it was very time consuming so maybe some CMs don't want to bother.
Also, did you ever meet an employee who thought they owned the company and you wanted to say "lighten up"? I think that is the kind of CM you were talking to.

I have to wonder about this as I have gotten two postcards since 1997, one of them was this week and also got an email with a pin for the same offer- 20% off value for time frames in April and May with a couple of days in June. I was at WDW 4 times in the previous 12 months so don't consider that a long time. Now if they are basing it on my first onsite stay in 1997 then I will go along with it. I have also booked the bounce back free dining for this Sept. which I did while there in December. We were not able to use any of the codes as they did not fit with out travel plans.

The "postcard" looks like a suitcase where the address is and then the folded over back reads "With this great offer we've packed inside, you may want to start packing for your dream walt Disney World vacation."

Thanks! I wanted to know what they look like. What does the 40% off one look like??

I think we got the suitcase one. Do you have to book the trip for before June 2nd?

My experience is that we got a 40% discount card in the name of my stepson who no longer lives with us. He can't use it so we called to see if we could, and even though it has our address on it and they have record that he accompanied us on our last trip 4 years ago they said we couldn't use it since it's in his name. So even though he's never actually booked a WDW trip he's being targeted and we're left out. Seems like they should be targeting people who might actually make use of the card. It's not like we go there every year - we've stayed on property twice in 15 years.
Because of the frequent advice I see here to "try a different CM - you might get a different answer" I called back today and lo and behold we're being allowed to use the discount ourselves. So it indeed works. There was no availability at our first choice - AKL - so we're booked for 4 days at WL.
