How does Disney decide who gets codes?

Last time I got a postcard months after I had already made my reservation. Not that I'm complaining, because I was able to upgrade my room and save $300for the week. I think its random.

To reiterate, I spoke to a CM yesterday who also confirmed again that the pins are attached to a specific household. She also said there is no requirement to bring the card with you because some people do not physically have the card for whatever reason (moves, lost in mail, etc...).

BUT the PIN MUST be attached to your name, right?????
Well that aside...Is this 40% off for specific dates? I thought I read that.

Yes. I also thought it was comical because she "volunteered" that she was aware of an online bulletin board that people were using to "spread the word" to keep calling until you got the discount. :rotfl2: I was laughing to myself. But, like it has been discussed some people didn't know about the pin until they called, so most of the people that didn't receive the e-mails or cards had a legitimate reason to call and inquire about the discount.

To this day, I still think Disney marketing had something to do with it.

We called and got the nicest CM ever. HE talked to DH about WDW, kids, etc. We tried 5 different dates....no 40% off. DH told him about hearing of a code and he said,"nope only if is attached to your address or email." He then checked our email which was a mess.....not even close. HE fixed is and just for fun DH asked if there was any codes attached to THAT (meaning the corrected) email ...nope.

I haven't seen anyone lately post getting a code who lives in PA.:sad2:

High taxes and no respect, the shame of it all- shunned by a rodent:rotfl:

My experience is that we got a 40% discount card in the name of my stepson who no longer lives with us. He can't use it so we called to see if we could, and even though it has our address on it and they have record that he accompanied us on our last trip 4 years ago they said we couldn't use it since it's in his name. So even though he's never actually booked a WDW trip he's being targeted and we're left out. Seems like they should be targeting people who might actually make use of the card. It's not like we go there every year - we've stayed on property twice in 15 years.

Yes only specific dates. Even if you have the pin, like I did, you still can't use it if your trips don't fall into the small group of dates being offered:

These are the dates that the 40% discount can be applied to:

Feb. 25-March 7
May 28-June 3
Aug 21-Oct 6
Oct 21-Nov 3
Nov 11-Nov 16
Dec 9-Dec 22

is this check in date only? (like other codes) or is it check out by those dates? (found out it was only check in from another thread)

I think they target people who DONT GO often. We have been lucky enough to be able to go once a year for the past 3 years. We have never gottne a postcard, email or any pin attached to our name. We have never recieved anything like that. I think it is because WE DO GO and they know we probably will go again. I can't wait to see if my MIL gets anything next year. We took her with us this year and I know for a fact she will NEVER EVER GO AGAIN!!!!!! She hated the crowds, the climate (we were there in Dec and it was warm one day cold the next) the rushing, the airplane and airport on a holiday etc. I bet she gets 100s of codes and offers.......oh well.

I don't know about that... I've gone 14 times since 1982 and I had a pin attaches to my MAIDEN name, which took 4 calls to Disney to figure that out! I was never sent a postcard, an e-mail or a phone call, it was pure luck that I asked the girl to check under my old name :confused3
It isn't fair that we're only random picks, I really wish everyone could get it.

Thank you! If you can belive it the November week is when I actually want to go! That gets my goat! Like I said previously I am so envious of those who got it! I hate feeling like I am missing a deal!

AMEN!!

I AGREE!

a CM told me they send them to people who have not been in a long time, I guess to tempt them to come back

My sister used to get postcards all the time after we hadn't been there in a couple of years. Then they just stopped coming. Of course, when she was actually deciding on going that is around the time that they stopped. Oh well.

Well, I got ALL excited because I called WDW this morning to see if there was a pin attached to our household and there was one under my Dad’s name. So I have her start inputting my info for the week I selected (November), resort, etc. and it kept telling her there was no package available. To make a long phone conversation short, it was a pin for a different promotion!!! Dates were for before June at WL. Oh well! Looks like we will be paying top dollar at DISNEY again! What a rip!:headache:

I agree that it's most likely for people they aren trying to entice back, but I don't think that's very fair.

We have been every year since 2001, some years more than once. This year I have 3 stays and a cruise planned. I would like to be rewarded for my loyalty to Disney!!

Ditto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted this elsewhere, but I think it belongs here:

So I got the 40% off PIN and I think I know why...
Because I can't use it! No, really. They sent it to the address I was at when we took our second trip (our honeymoon, 3 years ago). We lived with DH's parents for like 2 months before we got a house. Almost every single PIN we've gotten has gone to that address in my maiden name.

DH also got his very own PIN for dates in feb/march at that address.

So I think that if you are an infrequent visitor, you might be more likely to get these offers. They aren't associating the last trip I took (last January) or the one I have scheduled for August into account, because they were both with my married name.

I too think its sad that the more frequent visitors don't get things, but honestly it makes total business sense to me.

Just curious maybe someone can answer this for me. When I call Disney and ask if there are any pins or codes "attached" to my name, the CM's always tell me that's not how it works. I'll get a postcard, I can't call and ask as there is no way for them to check:confused3 . Yet I hear about people calling and finding out about pins and codes being attached all the time? Just curious?

I have to wonder about this as I have gotten two postcards since 1997, one of them was this week and also got an email with a pin for the same offer- 20% off value for time frames in April and May with a couple of days in June. I was at WDW 4 times in the previous 12 months so don't consider that a long time. Now if they are basing it on my first onsite stay in 1997 then I will go along with it. I have also booked the bounce back free dining for this Sept. which I did while there in December. We were not able to use any of the codes as they did not fit with out travel plans.

The "postcard" looks like a suitcase where the address is and then the folded over back reads "With this great offer we've packed inside, you may want to start packing for your dream walt Disney World vacation."

We went in September 06 and still received a card, so I don't know if the "enticing back" holds true. :confused3
