We are a family of 5 (3 kids : 7,4,2). We want to do a 7-day Western Carribean cruise. For some of you that haved cruised Disney as well as other cruise lines, how does Disney compare in:

Price
Quality

Thanks in advance

I've only done Disney, but I feel the old saying goes. You get what you pay for. In MY opinion (see I said MY opinion) that rule even goes for the stateroom category.

We have sailed Disney MAGIC and Royal Caribbean MAJESTY.

On our MAGIC cruises we had a catagory 11 one time and a category 10 stateroom the other. Because it was a bargain price I bet the MAJESTY gave us one of their smaller rooms too. We had a LOT more space in the MAGIC. There was a couch in the MAGIC room, a coffee table and vanity with hassock-stool, while on the MAJESTY there was no couch, only a bed and one chair for the vanity. Even a category 12 had a couch.

On the MAJESTY it was hard to watch TV as only one person could see it from the chair and the head of the bed was set on the same wall as the TV. If we moved the pillows they fell off the foot of the bed into a crack.

There were a lot of mirrors in the room on the MAJESTY and I think that was to give the illusion of more space. We have a small motorhome so living close together is something we are accustomed to, but it still was smaller than the MAGIC.

We found more people drinking and more pushing of alcohol on the MAJESTY. More people smoked on the MAJESTY and staff did not ask them to move to smoking areas so they smoked in the non-smoking areas too.

The MAJESTY had a casino which we did not care about.

The Disney ships have a LOT more space for children's programming. We saw more unsupervised children on the MAJESTY. We peeked in at the children's programming rooms on both ships and think Disney wins that HANDS DOWN.

Disney was more accomodating to our food preferences. I did not want the potato or any rice, but it came on the plate anyway on the MAJESTY. On the MAGIC I did not even have to look at it, and it was not wasted.

The shows were better on the MAGIC. The sound systems were better and they were shows. On the MAJESTY they were musical reviews with glitzy costumes and so-so choreography trying to hit musical preferences of every age in the audience. On the MAJESTY one of the comedy shows was off color even with children in the audience.

On the MAGIC, staff smiled when we walked by and asked how our day was going--even the girl polishing the bannisters. Staff on the MAJESTY spoke when spoken to and when my key-card was printed upside down and the boarding officer told me to take it to the Pursor's desk to have it fixed, the fellow there acted as if I were imposing on him. No smile, no apology, nothing. (PS--we never saw anyone polishing anything on the MAJESTY. On the MAGIC we saw staircases and decking being revarnished, lifeboats being painted, in port the sides of the ship were given touchup paint--there was routine maintainance going on all the time.)

Which is better?--DISNEY! They are a class act.

Out of 19 cruises I must say that our cruise on the Disney Wonder a few weeks ago was one of the best. The ship, the food and the children's programs were tops. I would recommend this cruise, especially for families.
There's just something about the magic of Disney that you won't find anywhere else.

We've done NCL 4 times on 3 different ships, Princess twice, RCL once, and the Disney Magic.

Best embarkation? Disney.

Best food? Disney. (Princess was a close 2nd)

Best stateroom? Disney (by a LONG shot!)

Best crew? Disney.

Best overall ship? Disney.

Best debarkation/Customs procedure? Disney.

Best Cruise??? Take a guess... ;)

We were so unbelievably impressed with Disney. Can't say enough good things about their cruises. We sail on the Magic again in less than 3 months and can't wait!
