How does Boardwalk Bakery compare to Main St. Bakery?

We recently became DVC members with a contract at BWV and will be going there every other summer for 10 nights each trip. We planned this so we will have plenty of time at the resort as well as a few days in the parks.

We were at WDW in July 2008. DH and I fell in love with the Main Street Bakery at MK, particularly those HUGE cinnamon rolls (we shared one and were stuffed!). It was so delicious, and everything else there looked great as well.

How does the Boardwalk Bakery compare to the Main Street Bakery? Are they as good as each other, or is one better than the other? We had gotten the cinnamon roll to share at Main Street Bakery because I had read about them here and we had to try one. Anything special to get at Boardwalk Bakery that we shouldn't miss? Also, how do the sandwiches for lunch compare at either place? I can't see us going to Main St. Bakery for lunch necessarily, but it's possible...but the Boardwalk is so limited on quick service places for lunch so I am wondering about the panini sandwiches at the bakery. Thanks!!!

No comparison, MK bakery is sooo much better. Better breakfast sandwiches, cinny rolls, french toast loaf!

The one area were the BW bakery is better is the fruit! They had a HUGE fruit plate that was delish!

We eat at the Broadwalk Bakery and I'm happy with it. Here are some pictures I took on a recent trip. I took a picture of the menu but I didn't take a picture of the other side where the lunch items are:

Here are some of the bakery items in the cases:

They are both good, but don't really compare. Main St Bakery has a lot more and focuses more on meals. Boardwalk is perfect for just bakery, but IMO isn't as strong as Main St Bakery for meals.

They also have better chocolate covered Mickey Mouse Krispy treats at Main St Bakery. :teeth:

Here's what we ate:

Also, the other nice thing about staying in DVC you can always buy stuff when you leave MK and bring back to room and re-heat it. I've done that many times.

Or some times we just go over to Epcot to get a snack. As a disclaimer I don't normally eat at Main Street Bakery so, I can't compare if it is better but I was okay with Boardwalk Bakery. Great place to pick up breakfast on the into Epcot.

WOW, those pictures are great!

I think we will be happy with Boardwalk Bakery, especially for snacking! My sons will love those cupcakes!

Anyone know if there is anything specific not included here as a snack credit on the DDP, with the exception of things like sandwiches and meals of course? Could you get any of the single serving baked goods as a snack credit?

there is a lot more to choose from at MK. I do like the crumb cake at the Boardwalk.

Also, the Boardwalk is a pleasant place to sit and relax early in the morning

Not so fast my friend, we used a CS credit at MSB for "lunch" (actually it was light dinner after Spectro) and it was fantastic. I chose the Basil Mozzerella sandwich (read it about it on DIS before my trip) that was outstanding, HUGE slice of Carrot cake that even with two of us having at it we took some back to the room for grazing and washed it all down with a bottled drink. Only at WDW is the dessert bigger than the entree...:cool1: Our 6yo chose the Uncrustable PB&J, milk and I think a banana. Can you believe a 6yo chose fruit as a dessert at a bakery? He was happy and I think we took the banana back to the room for a snack.

By the way, the tables were full and there was a line out the door that night. They kept trying to close the door, but guests continued to pour in and the CMs were as pleasant as can be. So I guess lots of people have uncoverd the secret of MSB at night.

As someone said Boardwalk seems to be the place for decadent desserts and MSB is stronger for a real CS/sandwich option. BTW the sandwiches are premade and ours was really fresh.

For us this was a more edible meal than Peco Bill's. Even our french fry loving boy wouldn't eat the fries from PB's. We ended up tossing a lot of that meal. We ate at PB's as CHH was closed, we were too far from Cosmic Ray's and we were seated for the party parade to pass us by. So even though I had CS "plans" they don't always work out that way. You may find the same situation and MSB was a really nice "find" for us.

I am very excited about the pics from both Bakeries, I am sitting here drooling right now. We are heading down to BWV in 5 weeks, and I will try them both out and report back!

Thanks for the pics. :) Do you happen to remember anything about the cake, w/green decoration, in this pic? Our DS chose Nine Dragons for his birthday dinner. If we can't get a cake there, we plan to pick one up at BB & carry it to the restaurant. I'm exploring options for custom cakes & cakes they have premade. TIA for the help. :flower3

I agree-I LOVE the Main St. Bakery for lunch!! Last trip we split a ham sandwich, which was huge and delicious! I also got a frozen coffee which was delicious, very fresh fruit, & delicious dessert. They only serve 3 different sandwiches (Ham, Mozzerella & basil, & I think Turkey) but it was a delicious lunch! Not to mention a very relaxing place to take a breather.
