Hi

I'm sure you will be able to help me.

We are thinking of buying into DVC, but not sure how banking points work. :headache: I suppose you get this info when you become a member.

How does banking points work and when do the points expire ? When you book at Disney do they take earlier points that are banked ?, etc.

Hi Julie

If you had say a February use year you would get this years allocation of points on 1st Feb 2007. If you banked them into next year they become available to use again 1st Feb 2008 so you can't use them for a trip before this date and they have to be used by 31st January 2009.

If you had 100 points that you banked and another 100 that became available 1st February 2008 but only needed say 150 for a trip, member services would use the banked points first then your regular points. You'd have 50 left over from 2008 and you could bank them to be used after 1st Feb 2009.

If you needed 250 points for your trip member services would use the 100 banked points plus your 100 current years points and you'd have to borrow 50 points from 2009 which would mean that on 1st Feb 2009 you would only have 50 points available to use.

I hope that makes sense :crazy2:

we have 200 points use year april.if we want to bank 100% we have to do within 6 months,
50% in 6-9 months
25% in 9 - 10 months
So if we havent banked within 6 months we can only bank 100 points up to 9 months and 50 points if we havent banked after 9 up to 10months.
once points have been banked they cannot be returned to there use year.Think this is the same for borrowed points
If i used 100 points i could still bank the outher 100 points up to 9 months as the 50%,25% is on my contract of 200 points
As it looks like you are planning on getting 150 or less you would be a borrower rather than a banker which i find easer to deal with as no presseue to have to go to use up points
Hope this helps and dosent confuse things for you

It also means that you don't have to go every year. As you can bank points for say next year and borrow points from the year after so if you have 150 points you can use 450 for one year!!!! Bring a few friends or go on a cruise even.

I so hope you and your family enjoy being a DVC members

Good point, whenever Julie posts under my id she does use some smilies I am afraid, quite worrying really.

Just FYI - despite the excellent exchange rate, and a couple of really attractive resales with banked points that were available, for the moment we are putting DVC on hold.
Whilst there are no problems for us financially, we just aren't 100% sure at the moment for a few reasons, one of which is Josh is such and early riser and up at 5am every morning, not ideal when someone is in the room next door.
We may think again at some point but appreciate all the advice.
