Please explain to me how the add-on works or direct me to where I can find out more info. We are in the process of signing our papers. I am trying to figure out if it makes sense to initially purchase less points and do an add-on instead. What are the incentives? Pros/Cons. Thanks.

An add-on is simply buying more points to add to your initial contract. The process is the same as your initial purchase--you call your Guide, give a credit card deposit over the phone, and the same paperwork is sent to your home.

Add-ons can be any increment over 25 points. Here are some thresholds of note:

25 - Minimum points for add-on
50 - Minimum to finance add-on through DVC
100 - Minimum to take advantage of any current promotions
120 - Minimum for special add-on incentive for current members (get one-time allocation of 100 bonus points)

Since you can only sell your points in the amount that you bought them in, some people prefer to own smaller amounts within the one membership. So, if you were buying 400 points, it may be to your advantage to have 2 200 blocks. One reason may be that you have 2 children and you wish to leave each 200 in your will. Your circumstances may change and you may have to sell points. This way you can sell 1 of the 200 blocks and not be forced to sell the whole 400.

Smaller contacts seem to move faster on the resale market as well. Recently I noticed 55 March UY VWL and it was sold before I had a chance to discuss it with DH.

If you buy an add on from Disney that's under 150 points, the points will have the same use year and yes, they would be added on to your current contract. There would be a decimal point and additional numbers .01, .02 etc. We have 5 parts to our contract, the original, 2 add-ons through Disney and 2 add-ons through resale.

Resale should be added on to your original if they have the same use year. However, there have been cases that they have not been that have been mentioned here on the boards. I do not know why or how that happened. We alerted our resale agent to the fact that we already owned and wanted the new one to be added to the old. That has worked for us both times.

So if I was planning on purchasing 245 points but won't get any points until uy sept. Do you think that it makes more sense to buy 150 then do an add-on for 120 which would give me the 100 points to use now? We are going to be at Disney in Aug and would like to have the 100 to use then.

I would definately buy the 150 and then add-on 120. Not only does this give you 100 points to use, bank or rent, but you will then also have 270 points every year
