How does a color swap work?

I get the general idea of course, but how are the color swaps set up? I think there is a signup soon for one. Are the elements in the kit all coordinated but fairly simple to keep in color theme? Sounds like a cool idea but don't want to underwhelm anyone by doing something too simple.

I'm thinking that I will be doing the color swap this time around similar to the last.

Journal box
Tag
Photo Mat
1 element of choice

I will have specific groups for specific colors as well as mixed groups.

Example: BROWNS everyone in the group will use shades of brown.
Example Mixed Colors: Color of your choice, can be anything.

They don't need alot of embellishments either. This way they can be mixed and matched with other color's.

I see that the sign-ups are listed as 2/15 on the calendar but there is no due date. When will that be? I am trying to plan my schedule but I don't want to overload myself if everything is due at once.

TIA!

Also, looking at the pics, I noticed that some of them were not embellished at all and some were very embellished. Were there two separate groups - a basic and a decorative? I was just wondering because most swaps require everything to be double matted and embellished and I would want to know going in if that is not the case.

Sorry to ask so many questions. I love color kits because they are so helpful when assembling pages but I want to make sure that I know what I'm getting into and what I'll get back. :goodvibes

Oh I would love this too...

There was no difference in the groups. Some were more embellished than others- it just depended on how well the guidelines were followed by participants. I didn't notice until I went to use some of them that some had a single sheet of paper not in photo mat size insterad of a photo mat (I have no idea who's are whos at this point just some of them were done with more embellishment and such than others.

Good point I will make sure that the rules are very clear on this one.

regarding the embellishments: Would you like groups with embellishments and some without? As for the embellished group's I'd say embellished at least 2 ways.Like Rebecca said some were very embellished some where plain.

These will be double matted

I think we will have 2 photo mats so that a single 12x12 page will be filled.

I was thinking for a due date of April 4th. Thats about a month and a half to get them done.

If I had my druthers, I would prefer only one photo mat per group. I also vote for embellished.

Thanks for clarifying!

Since you brought it up, me too. I am having a hard time finding anything in my stash that I have enough of to make 2 photomats and everything else.

I actually prefer two photmats although I hate to make them, but I use a lot of photos on a page. But I wouldn't be overly upset if it ended up at one.]

I do prefer embellished though.

Will signups be tomorrow still?

I generally like 2 photomats too. I am surprised that I am having a hard time coming up with the paper. I find myself wanting to do color combinations as opposed to monochromatic schemes. The idea is shades of the same color right? Sorry for the million questions Kat.

Looking at the examples -- I have plenty of paper to do things like hpim1469 (but embellished) and hpim1536. I can't seem to find stuff that would work for the red -- hpim1466 or yellow hpim1467 examples.

I use a lot of pictures on my pages also but I typically only mat one or two of them. My preference to only do one mat is purely selfish as I always have a hard time coming up with two distinct designs. Also, I sometimes think 2 mats, a journal box, and additional decorative elements make a page look too matchy-matchy. Yes, I know I can only use part of the kit but then I never use the rest.

Like I said, it's just MY preference. No one has to listen to it, but I figured I would mention it.

I never use photo mats from swaps as photomats because I never actually use full 4x6 photos.

They make great journaling boxes for when you have a lot to say though!

Me too! I rarely use an uncropped photo on a page but I always have plenty to say! Imagine that!

I use lots of different photo sizes and I usually mat everything. I do my cropping before I print, however, so I can still end up with a 4x6 if that's what I need. I hardly ever crop a printed photo. Sometimes I'll put 2 2x3 on a mat -- just need to trim one a bit. As for journaling -- I am terrible. Journal boxes that I can't turn into a photomat are probably what I would use the least.

I've used journal boxes for photo mats and vice versa. I'm always wary about over-embellishing colour kits because I don't know what else is going to be on the page (so i don't want to make it too girly or otherwise unusable, or clash with stickers). I sort of feel if I send them "clean" then the user can play with them to suit. I like them embellished, don't get me wrong, but I have had problems with where to use them sometimes, or the embelishment takes up some of the space. Having said that you've never seen me pass them forward :rotfl:

I like one photo mat, as I generally only have one full-size matted photo, or one "main" photo. I find on a single page two photo mats plus other elements is a bit too much, so I end up stretching over two and then having to find something else to fill the gap - yes, this is good, or I can split the kit, but if I only have 3 pics its another decision and I'm not good at them  Also (selfishly) two photomats is a lot of cardstock, and if its a biggish group I often don't have enough of the same colours for everyone (because I tend to buy my cardstocks in mixed packs as I don't have a physical store to get it from). Six can be a stretch for me.

I hear the point about mixed colours - how about a group of "shades of", a group of "combos" (e.g. blue and yellow, orange and brown or whatever the maker fancies) and a mixed group?

OK, nuff talking from me
