contact someone if you get lost in the park? Is there courtesy phones that guests can use?

There is no courtesy phone. It is best to have a predetermined meeting spot that you'll go to if separated. For lost kids, security takes them to the baby center, so you'd go there to meet them.

Is there a way to stay connected with the people you are going to the parks with? I'm from another country. So I don't know if cell phones are an option? Is there any tips out there?

I've heard about some pre-paid/disposable style cell phones. You might look into purchasing a couple of those if you don't want to bring your own cell phones (and pay for international calling).

Otherwise, as SMD said, it's best to set-up pre-determined meeting places. That way if you get lost, you know where to go to meet back up with your party.

Sounds like I'll have to do some research of the cell phones you mentioned. I agree, international calling is expensive!

Thanks, for your replies.

Our family plan, before cell phones, was meet at the Partners statue at the top of the hour. I still like that plan, for adults, especially for large groups.

Just wanted to throw it out there, but a friend was split from us and we didn't have a predetermined location. Her phone died and tried asking a cast member for assistant. She was redirected to payphones charging $1.49 I believe. It was funny because it's more expensive than a phone app. And it accepted only coins.

Wait, what!!

Someone please confirm this will not happen if one of my kids gets lost! I have instructed my kids to find the closest CM if the get lost, to give them my cell phone number.

Will Disney CMs not call me?

My 6yr old wandered off once but a CM found him and when we approached a store clerk that we lost him, they radioed in and told us right there that the CM would bring him there. Took about a minute...scared the crap out of us though

I think getting a prepaid phone would be an ideal plan or if you have a WAN tablet (i.e. iPad), get a data SIM from AT&T and get a cheap 1 day plan ($5) for texting.

I honestly doubt they would call you. I would assume they would wait for the "lost" parents to notify a CM themselves and they would then use their internal systems to locate the "found" child. Likely makes the most sense.

Now that you mention it, that DOES make the most sense. After about 15 seconds, I reach panic mode. Chances are, my kids would not get too far at all.

So many people (like us) are from out of the country so they likely don't depend on cell phones. It's terrifying to lose a child! We lost ours when she was about 5 in a VERY busy convention centre. Wall to wall people and they are just so little you can't see them (classic situation where I thought my MIL had her and my MIL thought I had her)! My dd did exactly what she was supposed to though. She found the nearest cashier and told them she was lost. I found them waiting for me up ahead. They wait with the child for a minute or two since the parents are usually nearby and looking frantically and then call in to security if they don't show up. My dd told me she had a single man come up to her and asked her if she was lost. She ignored him because she knew she was supposed to find a "worker". I was so proud of her! I'm sure the man only had good intentions but my dd remembered her "training" and stuck to it. Kids are so smart! She panicked way less than I did!

If no "workers" can be found, my kids know to approach a mom or dad with kids. We figure that's their safest second option. Our oldest will be 12 this time around so we'll arrange a meeting place for her if we get separated but my youngest (7) will still be told to find a CM.

SIM card? I wonder if it's that much.... Where do you buy that? Only in the US?

Agree with pps about a specified meeting time and place. You can meet every hour, every two hours or whatever will work. DL has been dealing with lost parents long before people "stayed connected"........

We have always had a plan if the kids did stray or get lost while in the park, and meeting at a specified location is the best one. Disney Statue in DLR, and the bridge at DCR. They knew the one hard and fast rule was that they never ever left the park without us.

But, saying that we have never felt worried or concerned with our kids in DL, the parks atmosphere made us feel confident and that we had control of the situation.

In reality after 7 visits, we have never had kids more than 50 feet from us (except for High School band trips), and the crowds were never such that you could not see them easily.

I do like the idea of matching t-shirts in the park, as they are visible for a long distance. During a band trip the kids all had yellow t-shirts, they were visable everywhere!

Safeway, Target, Walmart all sell cheap cell phones.. with pre paid cards.. and all stores are within walking distance or a short drive of Disneyland..
If you cant get to the stores, then try walking talkies... seen lots of people using them too over the years.. not so much now with cells being the way to go, but saying that . I still see people using them.. and you can buy them in your country of origin and use them in the States.

I second the walkie talkie idea. We did this when our son was little and didn't have a cell phone yet. They are very inexpensive and small. Fits nicely in a pocket.
