Our 9 month old DD just got over Salmonella and the gentleman at the Health Department said they are seeing a lot more of it coming from fruits and vegetables and they don't know why. He said it is starting to become more and more frequent in Florida.
Everybody who knows me knows I wash all my vegetables and fruit.
My son went on a field trip when he was in Kindergarten to an apple orchard. The tour guide gave all the kids an apple at the end to eat and they all started eating them except for DS. I was standing with the other mothers and looked his way and asked him why he wasn't eating his apple. He yelled out "because you didn't wash it yet."![]()

You can remove a substantial amount of most pesticides from conventionally grown food. Wash produce in a highly diluted solution of liquid dish soap, rinse thoroughly, and then do what you would normally do: Peel carrots, stem strawberries, and so on. A study by the Southwest Research Institute found that the amount of produce containing detectable levels of pesticide residue dropped by half with washed samples. Where residue remained, levels were reduced by 29 to 98 percent.

I remember reading something in Consumer Reports so I looked it up:
Besides, lots of people touch and handle the produce. I don't know where their hands have been (lol) so I always wash them.
