I just rinse them off with water. My Mother scrubs vegtables. I have also seen washes in the produce section. I could not find this answer online.

I just rinse them with cool water. Then the get bagged with a paper towel.
I can't imagine using soap. :p

I also use a little bit of soap. I have been meaning to buy some of the natural fruit and veggie wash as we ran out a few months ago.

Our 9 month old DD just got over Salmonella and the gentleman at the Health Department said they are seeing a lot more of it coming from fruits and vegetables and they don't know why. He said it is starting to become more and more frequent in Florida.

Everybody who knows me knows I wash all my vegetables and fruit.

My son went on a field trip when he was in Kindergarten to an apple orchard. The tour guide gave all the kids an apple at the end to eat and they all started eating them except for DS. I was standing with the other mothers and looked his way and asked him why he wasn't eating his apple. He yelled out "because you didn't wash it yet."

My MIL lives in Vero Beach & works at an Elementry school.

I read somthing about the Salmonella on friuts & veggies being a problem with farms that also raise animals. Cross contaiminations, from the animals being to close, with rain water.

What a small world.

We actually live in Sebastian, North of Vero, I just haven't bothered to change my profile yet.

I always wash our produce. Not only because of pestice residue, but other residues, dirt, and bugs.

I remember reading something in Consumer Reports so I looked it up:
You can remove a substantial amount of most pesticides from conventionally grown food. Wash produce in a highly diluted solution of liquid dish soap, rinse thoroughly, and then do what you would normally do: Peel carrots, stem strawberries, and so on. A study by the Southwest Research Institute found that the amount of produce containing detectable levels of pesticide residue dropped by half with washed samples. Where residue remained, levels were reduced by 29 to 98 percent.

Besides, lots of people touch and handle the produce. I don't know where their hands have been ( :crazy2: lol) so I always wash them.

Once I found a dead fly in my head of lettuce. That's why it all get's washed as soon as I get home from the store.

I leave my fruit/ veggies in the bag and fill it up w/ water. Then, I sprinkle in 2-3 Tb of basic Arm&Hammer baking soda. The soda acts like a cleaning agent. Let the bag stand for a couple minutes, message the fruit/vegges for a little bit and then rise throughly.

I scrub them with a fruit and vegetable scrubber (it was a gift, I do not know where it was purchased) and use water.

Thank You for looking that up. I really wanted to Know the "correct way to clean everything".

Once I saw someone trying to flick something off his finger and then ended up wiping it on a piece of fruit, I always scrub my produce :crazy2: :crazy2:

I've been known to wash with a smidge of dishsoap if I was having an OCD day.

I do this too, especially if it's a fruit or veggie I know has been handled to death by other customers, like apples.

Exactly! Not to even mention the imports and what touches them before they arrive.... yuck!

I use FIT and if i run out of that, i definitely use a touch of dishwashing soap.

I wash things like tomotaes with soap and water - just think of how many people touch them checking for ripeness :crazy2: You wash your hands - why not your tomatoes after who knows who has been touching them. :)
