We ordered our card for a trip last June and used the Reward Dollars to pay nearly $600 of our trip. We just charged everything to our room. In December, we took the Reward card to DTD and had the Reward Dollars balance transfered to the Reward card and used it to pay for over $300 of our room and again charged all meals, etc. to our room. We found out that you can call from any phone and have the balance transferred to the card.
I would recommend that you order the Reward Card a few weeks before you go on your trip. When you order the Reward Card, ask how long it takes for the Reward Dollars to be credited to your account when the charges are applied to your account balance. (How long does it take for the Rewards to be available for use.)
On the trip, charge everything (meals, souvinears, etc.) to your room key up to a couple of nights before you check out of the hotel, then go to the front desk and ask to pay for your room bill up to that point using your Disney Visa, then continue to use your room key to pay for your meals, etc. for the remainder of the vacation. Call Bank One the night before you checkout and transfer the balance of your Reward Dollars to the Reward Card. When you check out, pay your final bill using the Reward card first to use up the Reward Dollars and pay the remaining balance with another credit card or traveler's checks. That way you get the most Disney Rewards and don't leave any Disney Reward Dollars on your account when you stop using your Disney Visa.
We use our Disney Visa to pay for everything we can and pay off the balance on-line twice a month, much like a check-card in reverse, and accrue as many of the Reward Dollars as we can. We have accrued nearly $900 in a little over a year now. We have had other "reward" cards and never saw any of the rewards: unused frequent flyer miles on an airline that may not be in business in another six months? Cash back only if we keep a high balance and pay a high interest rate? At least this way we have reaped some rewards and it hasn't cost us anything in the process. That's free money for us!
I'm sorry it wasn't a successful program for you. I'm sure it isn't for others as well. For us and many others it is.
