How do you use KTPs character locator?

Anyone ever use Kenny the Pirate's Character Locator? What have you gotten out of it?
I have a friend who just purchased a subscription thinking it was like Touring Plans. She said there are only a few plans, with no time estimates. She asked Kenny for a refund the same day she ordered but he refused and instead kept trying to justify his plans. I'm trying to help her figure it out. Is it literally only for meeting characters?

I only used it for meeting characters. It’s called “Character Locator” and that’s its main purpose. I know there are some other features and I did look around on the site, but the main reason I bought it was because my son loves characters and we wanted to see as many as possible.

I saw that post before it got deleted I'm not a subscriber but it seems a lot of people use it to get the top secret "Tap Grab Modify" info....the same info which is readily available here on the boards and all over the internet (for free). But I digress....

This ! I don't know - its by no.means a personal thing, but I have a hard time paying for info that is readily available online - we have never had problem seeing just about every character that we wanted to, simply by asking a cm

He has all of the instructions on how to use it on his site. She just needs to go read that.

I'm not a fan of his, but I get his point. And if you want to meet characters he has really good info.

Yep, refreshing MDE to get more fast passes...pretty simple concept that he gave a fancy name to and charges for.

How much does KTP charge? Didn’t even realize his service was something you purchase, always thought he was a free character locator site.

I've used his touring plans (and it was detailed) but that was in 2014 soo it's been awhile. His touring plan obviously what character built vs ride built so if you're into the characters it's really good. HOWEVER, his times were not realisitc unless you were jogging. NO WAY to stay on time with realistic expectations. And we are fast people and follow a plan well. I would recommend touringplans if you want step by step and enter all the characters you want there. More realistic and easier to stay on schedule.

I think I paid 9.99 for the subscription, but I really only use it for the crowd calendars as I have found his to be the best for when we go, but there are many factors that can make them good or bad.

His crowd calendars are free.

The cost if 9.99 for 12 months so it is relatively cheap. I am a fan of the subscription but I can certainly understand where others might not be.

I got a KtP subscription and I agree that the main benefit is the comprehensive info on characters. It's very good. Otherwise, the rest of the info can be found by staying on top of the info here on the DIS. It may be a good tool too for those that don't have time to figure things out.

I think he used to do comprehensive touring plans, but now they are a benefit for those that book through his travel agency.

I paid for several years and found there was a lot of incorrect information - menus were wrong, park hours were wrong, EMH were on the wrong day, etc. He seems to be selling membership based on the "tap grab modify" at this point, which is amusing since it's common knowledge on all Disney planning sites. I also have seen a change in content since he went into the travel agent business.

The character info is good but we are not character people. It's very affordable, and would be worth the cost if you're character people, but I don't think it has much use beyond that.

My son is a character person, so we subscribed for our last trip. The pros--he really does provide the most easily accessed list of characters, with times they're meeting each day, tips for how to interact with them (ie, fun questions and posing suggestions), info about expected waits for various characters, and some secret meet and greets that apparently even CMs won't tell you about in advance. The biggest con for us was that he only provides one week at a time, loaded on Saturday. So although you can play around on the site ahead of time to get an idea of what's there and what you might be interested in doing, the site isn't really useful for advance planning. It's more something you'd use while you're in the park, or maybe the night before while planning your day. That was my main criticism--I didn't realize before subscribing that I wouldn't have access to that info as soon as he knew it. It's a good site and subscription for what it is, but it's very focused on characters.

I've noticed that, too. I don't know if it has affected the Character Locator part of the site, but the blog and the type of responses he gives to comments seem to have changed.

I have a subscription and have found that in the past his character info was more accurate than the MDE app.

I have a subscription for the character information. DD(19) is a performance major and loves time with the characters so I build a lot of time with characters into our plans. His information seems to be more accurate than MDE with times etc. I develop my plans using KTP and Easywdw. Between those two sites and this one we are always more than ready for our trips.
