How do you tote your stuff around DL?

Walt Disney World and Disneyland are the ONLY places in the United States where it is socially acceptable to sport a fannie pack. You will in no way look "cool" but you won't be mocked or laughed at. Teenagers in your party will protest to your wearing of the fannie pack but other guests will understand and refrain from judgement.

There are absolutely NO exceptions to this rule.

Some healthcare professionals use them in the course of their jobs but in IMHO they look ridiculous.

I can't comment on the acceptability of fannie packs at other Disney parks, because I haven't visited.

But I can add that you will look totally ridiculous in all major cities in Europe, Mexico, and Canada rocking a fannie pack.

I sported a fannie pack for the first time in May, and found them to be perfect for Disney touring. Although, it is imperitive that the fannie pack be removed upon leaving Disney property or you will look like a dork at the airport.

My motto is just say no to hauling stuff ! For a day at the park i am down to :
a lipstick
3 kleenex
a $20 bill
Room key
Ticket
all of which can be put in clothes pockets!

My DD carries a tiny hand cream in her pocket( we share the lipstick and lotion)
and my DH has the camera and a wallet, and 3 disposable rain ponchos in his cargo shorts

once you tour "sans stuff" you will never turn your back on the freedom !

the last couple of times we went I went purseless, and it was so liberating. LOL I put my id, some credit cards, and cash in my pockets. Make sure you wear pants/shorts with pockets! LOL cargos work nicely. :thumbsup2 I also had my cell. Back when I had an AP, I would take a little mickey wallet with a long strap that I wore across my body.

I wish I could go purseless when we go to WDW, but since that's a serious vacation, I probably have to take at least a mini backpack...

I seriously want to go the fanny pack route, but I think DH will divorce me if I do...EVEN if I'm on Disney property! :lmao:

lol yes this is all funny. the pants i got are no pocket ones. so the fannie pack will be like my pockets. Im gona try to get disney one lol

This is probably a stupid question from a DL newbie, but I'd love to know how everyone carries their stuff around the park. I've read to let my tweens/teens bring iPods and Gameboys to use while waiting in long lines. I'd also like to bring a digital camera and my son wants to bring his small video camera.

So what do we do with all this stuff when we go on Space Mountain or Splash Mountain or any ride/attraction? It's tough keeping track of hats and sunglasses during regular sightseeing, but I'm not sure how we'll handle all of our stuff when it comes time to board rides. Do they even let you bring purses or tote bags on the rides?

Thanks for your tips!:flower3:

Depends of if you have kids or not. No kids, carry small backpack or purse.. Make sure it's waterproof. I trashed my camera on Splash Mountain. Next time I will put my camera in a zip lock.

with kids, use a stroller.

Can we also bring snacks and sandwiches in our backpacks? Its been couple of years since we went to DL, i know they're pretty strict about stuff that you can bring inside the park.

Yes, snacks and sandwiches should be fine. I personally have taken bags of munchies and candy bars, water, etc. with no problem. From what I've read on here, the only things that usually get turned away are actual coolers (BIG ones).;)

I try not to tote too much around the park. Fanny packs are the best bet. Stroller thefts recently have gotten me away from keeping anything there. I'll alway buy a locker for the day for those things that we bring that we will only need once or maybe not at all (jackets, lunch, wife's purse, etc.)

i haven't read about recent stroller thefts. on another part of the board they were posting that this was not a problem. is it stuff out of strollers or entire strollers? could you elaborate? thanks

I have a Lands End diaper bag backpack that I take with me. I love all the compartments and I pack a lot of stuff in it: sweaters, camera, autograph books, first aid kit...etc. I usually keep my camera in a ziploc bag but the other things are well protected by the vinyl lining inside the backpack.

Hi

I have 3yr old and 5 yr old boys.
On our trip last Sept I brought my Baby Bjorn Backpack (black).
It's great becuz it has 2 outside compartments meant for baby bottles but the water bottles fit perfectlyin there too.

I had plenty of room in my backpack for snacks, hats, sunglasses, change of clothes for wet rides. I also brought a large ziplock bag for my video camera.
I was sooo glad I did too after getting soaked on Splash Mountain!

This year I'm planning on bringing fannypacks the boys can wear so they can carry their own water bottles. I felt like a pack mule last time..my back was killing me at the end of the day. My husband helped carry the load too, but I usually had it.
I got a cute DL fannypack on ebay for my 5 yr old but it doens't have a space to hold a water bottle.

If anyone knows where to find a kid sized fannypack which has a water bottle holder let me know!

Well I used a fanny pack for years till I found out it wasn't "cool" lol and everyone talked about the messenger bags. So I got one of those but I have to say the fanny pack was nicer cuz it was small and didn't interfere on rides and I had nothing to carry or worry about. But it WAS a bit too small so with my bag I can fit my camera and all my junk and even a water bottle if I wanted to. I put it diagonally across me and it works. I have to wear a visor but I have a light weight one and when I go on a ride that I need to take it off I loop it around my wrist or attach it to my bag.

The kids only bring jackets and when it gets hot we get a locker on Main street so we have them for later on.

We used to have strollers and it was SO nice to pile all our junk on there but alas my kids are big now and after I heard of all the thefts I am glad we don't rely on that anyway.

The best plan though is to take the least as possible so as not to have to lug it around.

What is sans stuff???

kelmac- I know what you mean about the fanny pack not being cool.
If I can find one big enough to hold my camera and videocamera I might have to ditch the backpack if I can get everyone to tote their own stuff.

I agreee it is easier to wear a fannypack even if it isn't cool.
The backpack is a pain when getting on and off rides.

MonicaD-
I noticed in your siggie that you have stayed off property quite often at DL, which are your favorite places?

We are staying at the Park Vue Inn this year right at the crosswalk of Harbor. Last year was DLH but I promised this trip wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
Have you ever stayed at the Park Vue?

I love my fanny pack at DL--and I hate to admit it, but it's not the only place I wear it!
This is hilarious!

I so admire people like you!

When we go, I always have granola bars, beef jerky, and at least two bottles of water for both of us. I've seen people taking sandwiches from their packs but it's not something we've ever done.

I vote for a backpack. We go often and they work out really good for us.
