How do you tip on DDP?

This will be our first time with the dining plan, since they changed the plan to not include tips. Can we put the tip on our room key, or do we need to carry around cash to use? Any idea what is preferred by the servers?

I really wish they would just increase the price and keep the tips included - so much more convenient....
