how do you tell if an business is secure?

i need to order shoelaces (of all things) and i was thinking of doing from a website. it's a little business that i've nbever heard of. should i worry about fraud? i'd think not, since it's got a decent webpage, but if i'm giving my cc number to anyone i want to have confidence in them. is there any cause for concern, or should i just order? how would i verify them? thanks.

Hes, if the URL begins with http<b>s</b>, then it is secure.

thanks jc2.. but i probably didn't mean secure .. more like, trustworthy. like they wouldn't overcharge or anything funny like that. (i'd be ordering over the phone, not online.)

Hmm, I don't know unless you call the Better Business Bureau and ask if there have been complaints about the company.

If you NEED shoelaces, go to the corner drugstore and buy a pair for a buck or whatever they cost. If you WANT shoelaces, I would say do the same, but in a little greater quantity. I think the S&H would be disproportionate to the dollars expended on product over the Net, unless of course, you were stocking up for the coming several decades of your life. But then remember, styles, and the ensuing potential requirement for various lengths, colors, compositions and the like may make the healthy upfront expenditure not a financially astute venture.

Just a few thoughts to ponder while waiting for a site evaluation.

had to order special shoe laces that were quite expensive for the bike shoes for racing......they were well over ten dollars a pair.....and they often go through more then one pair a race....I think that your credit card will be secure and good luck ordering
