Okay, I see that pets are allowed but what exactly do you do with your pet at the Fort? Is this mostly for people with RVs? We are tent campers and I am trying to figure out if this would be a good or bad idea. What do you do with your pet when you go somewhere?

Thanks for the info!

If you have a hard-sided camper (Motorhome, travel trailer, 5th wheel), you can leave your pet in your camper while you are away if you reserve a pet loop.

If you are in a Pop Up, Hybrid, or tent, you can still bring your your pet and reserve a pet loop, but while you are away at the parks, you must take your pet to the kennel either at Ft. Wilderness or one of the kennels near each park entrance. (Fort Wilderness is the only kennel with overnight hours, I think)

We always take the Wonder Beagle to the kennel during the day, and he comes back to the Kiwi with us at night.

If you are there while Carol is camping, feel free to drop your pet off at her camper for the day. (Do you get the feeling I'm picking on you tonight?)

We have 2 dogs that come with us from central Nj our brittany sits in the front with us and our chocolate lab sits in the back seat of our dodge quad cab pickup she gets all spread out we give her pillows and blankets then when we get to disney they have there pet beds in the TT so they got it pretty good we come back mid day for a break for us and potty break for them has always worked out good for the past 8 years they have been to disney with us

NJ campers, I'll be in dirty jerzy this weekend, please have lunch ready. Jim has Friday covered.

Ok, I just got an 8 wk Shih Tzu that we are planning on taking when we go in July..I requested a pet loop but I forgot to ask if we needed to take the shot records or anything on the dog..

Yes, you will need to show the vaccination records. Especially if you plan on leaving them in the kennel. :)

After watching uh..... ten seconds of this I came to the conclusion that this girl buys her shirts in the little girl department instead of Lane Bryant!!

that's dirty jerzy

This could also be said of most seedy trailer parks in Polk & Hillsborough Counties!! Have a great trip Pete. Jim will do a great job as the "appointed by the self-appointed moderator" while you're away.

Back to topic. We have cats that are camping nuts and have been to WDW more than most people. I have never been asked for vaccination records when staying at FtW, but always have them just in case. They DO require up to date vaccination records if you board at the kennels.

Just a warning.... I have seen people leave their dogs tied up outside their camping equipment when they go away from the site. Disney CM's have been known on occasion to take the dog to the kennels and leave a note for you. If this happens, your dog will remain in the kennel for the rest of your stay. As I said, I've seen this happen - escpecially if the dog is a nuisance barker, or shows aggression to by-passers. In only takes one person to call the front desk to report you, and bye-bye poochie.

We took our dog with us last year and used the kennel during the day. Not a problem.

It is more expensive to have a dog with you ... we had to upgrade to a pet loop ($10 more per night as we only really needed a basic site), then additional $5 per night for having a pet, then $10 per day (now more) for the kennel. So last spring (2007) it cost us at least $25 per day more. Plus we had to pay extra at the hotel down and back from Michigan.

But it was worth it for us.

As far as vaccination records - It is ALWAYS a good idea to have these with you when you travel, whether you plan to use a kennel or not. Please note that you may want to find out vaccination requirements, just in case you decide to use the kennel ... you never know if it might be unexpected and you will want to be prepared. Bordetella was one vaccine that our dog needed that we wouldn't ordinarily have given him.

Know what the pet laws are for Florida. I believe that you cannot leave a dog unattended in a vehicle ... Anyway, it's better to have all your facts in advance than to be taken by surprise.

On the Drive down Louie our 3 leg dog has own couch in the MH that he doesn't like to share with the Kids. Once we get setup at Disney His friends stop by to see him (female cast members)then retires to the MH and sucks up the A/C, sleeps and watches TV in the MH while we go to the parks and cook in the Disney heat. Some time about midday one of us will return to the MH wake up the dog and take him for a walk + the same thing around 5 or 6 pm. We stay in a perferred site so it's only an extra $5.00 a day. Much cheeper than the kennel at home (10 days at kennel + bath + any booster shots = $400.00 or more)

ALSO HE'S NOT MAD ME WHEN I PICK HIM UP FROM THE KENNEL

We love bringing our 2 Siberian huskies, they are like family. I got an Excursion to have enough room for everyone on the trip. We leave them at the Fort kennel when we go out, and about midday we return to walk the dogs and have a lunch break at camp. Its very convenient, and we save a lot of money on food, not eating out all the time. We drive to the parks because its so easy and much faster than waiting on buses, and we just drop off the dogs on the way out.
