How do you switch resorts at 7 months?

I have my ressie at my home resort, BCV, for President's Week this coming Feb. but considering switching to a different resort. My questions is how do you do this?

Do you call MS day-by-day to waitlist at the new resort? or do you wait until 7 months before check out to call?? Is day-by-day even possible?? (even if it is silly!)

If you do not have enough points to hold a Day by Day ressie with out canceling your BCV each day then I would wait until you can find out that can reserve the whole time.

At seven months, Day by Day is not a sure thing as there may be only a 2 day opening and then closed the rest of the week.

you would not want to lose your ressie at BCV unless you were sure. At Pres. week you would not get it back.

It's up to you, you can do it either way. The danger with day to day is what if you get a date in the middle that is soldout? Your best bet is to talk to member services before you start switching your reservation and ask what availability looks like. If they tell you some nights are already soldout, you can wait until the last day and put in your waitlist request for the entire stay. Or you can take a chance on switching some nights and waitlisting for the missing ones.

I would call at the beginning of the week and ask MS how things look for the week. If it is open but tight you have the chance to call each day at 9:00 A.M. and do one day at a time. If it is wide open, you could call on the last day. I would cancel the reservations you have as you make a new reservation whether it is day by day or all at once. Tell MS that that is what you want to do. The main thing is call MS and let them know what you want to do. They will help you.

Silly me!! I think I was getting myself confused. Correct me if I'm wrong...

To "switch" resorts at 7 months, you are actually making a new reservation using the same process as the one made at my home resort at 11 months. The only difference is that as you make reservations at the new resort you will need to cancel the old reservation. Of course the availibility will be more contrained at 7 months and may require a waitlist.

I see the problem with day-by-day at 7 months out. Hummm. Perhaps I'll stick with waitlisting the entire stay (or staying at BCV - not a bad choice!)

Personally, I wouldn't do day by day for the reasons listed. I'd try to change the entire reservation at one time at the 7 months from final check out time. If it wasn't available, I'd waitlist.

The "worst" that could happen is you could end up at BCV. Not a bad fall back position, is it!

We called MS at the 7 Month window of the last day of our stay. We asked to be waitlisted at BCV choosing the entire stay option and automatic switch of the ressies. It worked like a charm. A couple of weeks after I called a new ressie was in the mail one day. I called back to verify the old one had been cancelled and that all had been handled correctly and it had. No fuss no muss, and no stress. The good news is that you have one ressie so try this option.

The best way if you have enough points is to make your reservation at 11 months out at your home resort then make a new reservation day by day at your planned destination. Then at the end cancel the old reservation. This has implications for banked and borrowed points as well as the banking window and should be considered very carefully.

That would be a really great way to do it, but alas, I only have enough extra (without borrowing) points to do half of the reservation. I supose I could try to hopefully secure half that way and if I can do that, cancel the first ressies and assume I could get the other half with the waitlist. I bit risky, but I bet it would come through.

The other options are to book home resort at 11 months out then when the 7 month window opens, you have a few choices. These include the following.

• Wait until you can book the entire stay at your planned destination and if it's not available, waitlist.
• Book day by day, cancelling the corresponding days on your old reservation. If you do this, ask the CM the first day what your odds look like, they should be able to give you a very good idea of your chances of success.
• You could also do a mini version of my first suggestion above, that of keeping the old reservation then booking the new one and not cancelling the old one until you have everything. The variation would be to schedule as many days on the second reservation as you have points for BEFORE you cancel ANY days on the old reservation. Then only cancel the least days on the old one until you get everything set. Remember that cancelling weekend days will free up a lot more points frequently allowing one to keep almost all the old reservation intact until you have the new one set in most cases.
