We normally get up early at home and are on EST, so getting into the Vegas time frame is a bit rough. Over the years we have learned a few things:
1) We try to stick within 2-3 hours of our home time - otherwise, the return to work is too rough! This means we are usually up and at the casino by 6:00 am (LV time) and to bed by 10:00-11:00 pm.
2) We plan our trips to be 5-6 days in length - that way we don't feel like we have to rush around and lose sleep because we "always have another day"
3) We stay on the strip and once it starts getting to 9:00-10:00 pm, we will head back to where we are within a nice walking distance of our hotel/casino - that way, I can just go up to bed while my husband can stay gambling
Our routine the last few trips have been to get up early and start with coffee. We'll drive over to Ellis Island for a good breakfast or head out to South Point for breakfast at their cafe. We like to play $5 BJ and at that time of day it is very easy to get a table; especially at South Point.
Each day, we have a bit of an agenda ... like, today we will go downtown / or let's go out to Red Rock Canyon and then stop at RR Casino. Our day always ends on the strip (where we stay) ... we'll park the car for the night and then walk to the various casinos on the strip. If we stay near the Tropicana intersection and want to go to a casino further North, we might get a 24-hr monorail pass. I just don't like driving a rental car around after dark.
So we do, for the most part, get our sleep ... I just don't have fun when I'm too tired. When gambling, I find I make stupid mistakes when I'm tired as well.
So, that's our strategy ... of course, caffeine helps too.
