How do you split stay with the free dining?

I'm holding out for an upcoming package perhaps with free dining and I was wondering how you book your split stay? Do you purchase a 1-day park ticket with one hotel and the remaining number of days in a multi-day ticket? I was crunching the numbers and for 8 days it's was more cost effective to purchase a 7-day MYW-PH and 1-day non-PH rather than two 4-day MYW-PH. I was just curious how everyone is doing their packages with a split stay. We were even wanting to do 3 resorts but I can't figure out the cheapest way. Any suggestions or advice?

Buy an 8 day ticket and save the 1 day ticket for a different trip. The 1 day ticket is good for life so you can always upgrade it later. You might even consider going to Guest Services on your check out date and ask if you could have the 1 day ticket refunded (the package says you must buy a 1 day ticket to get the package, you are doing that but because you want to try 2 different hotels, in my opinion you should not be penalized by having to buy 1 day tickets for each resort). Last year I bought 1 day tickets to go with our trip. Because they offer FL tickets I didn't want to pay general rate. I was not able to upgrade my ticket because it was a general rate. But once the trip was over I could upgrade it. What was done for me was I bought the florida ticket and upon check out I went back to Guest Services and was refunded for the 1 day ticket. In previous years when I had APs I would just save the ticket and use it toward the renewal of my AP.

I was going to buy an 8 day ticket, but then I wasn't able to add the dining to the other hotel.:confused3
