Our flight home doesn't depart until 7:00 p.m.
Wondering how all of you spend your last day of vacation?
I'm assuming we will be able to store our luggage for the afternoon @hotel. Does anyone know, if we chose to, could we spend time at the hotel pool after check-out?
Our Disney tickets will be good throughout this last day.
Thanks for any thoughts!

You can use the pool throughout the last day after you checkout and store your luggage with bell services. I would pack a small bag with everything you'll need that day so you don't have to get back into your luggage. We are leaving late our last day also, we booked a late character breakfast at the Grand Floridian. We will check out the hotel and maybe the Poly also. Have a great time!!

My last day in the "world" always has to include a trip to the MK. I feel the need to "say goodbye" to the castle and always manage to have tears in my eyes!! I know it's crazy, but it's true!!! My heart breaks everytime I say goodbye!!

Same with us.. MK that last day.. Its always a weird feeling when you are home later that evening to think you were in the MK that same day.

We always take the 3:30 flight so we get from about 9-1 before we leave for the airport. We always spend those last few hours in MK. Something special always happens (probably because we are open to the magic ;) ) and we turn and wave to the castle on our way out :( .

We usually drive since it's only a 9 hour drive. So, it's best for us on the day we're leaving (usually a Saturday) to just get up and LEAVE. Therefore, our last day is a full day. We flew a couple of times and both times we had such a hard time enjoying that last day - we made the flights mid-late afternoon hoping to squeeze in more time but we were so sad we couldn't thoroughly enjoy it.

So, on our last full day we park hop and visit our favorite attractions one last time. We have a really nice dinner and watch fireworks somewhere, usually Illuminations. Then we pack before we go to bed.

Then, on that sad Saturday morning, we get up and pretty quickly leave WDW. It works best for us that way.

Don't you hate leaving the property and seeing that sign "See You Real Soon." Have you ever seen a grown woman cry?

PamNC

We drive as well. My dad lives in FL so we stop over and visit him on our way through. Our last morning at WDW, we have a character breakfast (think Chef Mickey's is our new send off) and then we leave. By stopping a couple hours later, it helps to soften the blow - WDW withdrawal is a serious problem for us! It helps to have our next trip planned!:p

I'm with PamNC. THe last two years we've done evening flights to try to squeeze out those last extra moments of magic, but it just doesn't work for us! Last year we ended up at AK for about 2 hours before I said "Forget it!" and we went to the airport about 4 hours before our flight... we were just too sad to enjoy ourselves. This year, we're driving. We'll get up and leave when we feel like it. No worrying about it! Not that this helps the OP!!!!!!

Seriously, workin, pick where you want to be that last day and just do it. Maybe you're not as pathetic as me! I would expect some tears though....

Have a wonderful vacation!

Erin :D

We always drive as well. Our last day is like PamNC posted, get up and leave. Occasionally we have a PS at Chef Mickey's before we leave, just to get a little more magic, but the day before is considered our "last" day and we always shutdown MK. In fact, we stay at WL and the boats usually have stopped running by the time we leave the park.

We usually spend the morning in the MK, eat lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern then head back to the hotel for a swim and clean clothes. That puts us on the road around 4 and home by 7-ish.

Our last day has started to be sort of a tradition now. We get up get packed (ask for an extra hr before check out the night before) go to breakfast about 10am. at OHana's. Go back call bell service. Leave WDW go to DTD and do a little shopping last min. and take in some of the sites there. The Lego exibits , go to lunch at McDonalds. maybe go play around of putt putt. When we are in the World we don't leave so the last day for us it spent in DTD and Orlando area.
One yr i did go on the monorail and buses to the resorts collecting smashed pennies and checking out resorts the day we left. It is always hard leaving. I fear that if i went back into the parks the day we had to leave I might chain myself to something:p

When flying we have always tried to get the later evening flights...then we spend the afternoon doing either Epcot or MGM or both and then a swim before we dress to leave.....I love having the late evening flight...having a morning flight always made me feel rushed and that I didn't get a true week at WDW

We usually spend it crying !! (Well, that..... and thinking of booking the next trip)

Has anyone else ever called CRO from an airport pay phone to book another trip?? Usually helps with the post-wdw-depression that really kicks in on the flight home !!:bounce:

One year we did a water park the last day. Usually it's hot and you're very active so 3-4 hours usually does us in. Do this and your kids will sleep ALL THE WAY HOME!

Another thing we like to do when we spent all our money is enjoy our hotel to the fullest and wear out the pool. Then clean up and visit another hotel to be thinking of new places to stay. Then we leave with our next trip stirring in our heads.

We go to Animal Kingdom on that day. I know that people say that it is a full-day park, but we usually do it in the 3/4 of a day that we spend there. Plus, it has yet to fail to rain on the day that we go home. Actually, rain is not the word for it. I would go with monsoon. We pack the car in the morning and drive to the park to go directly to the airport. So we do that park and by the time the rain comes in, we are done with the park and head off to the airport where we always get delayed for at least an hour due to thunderstorms. It is a lot easier to leave Disney in a rainstorm than if it is nice and sunny, so it definitely works for us!

We pack up the rental car first thing in the morning and head over to Chef Mickey's for breakfast. Then we go to MGM to ride ToT and RnR a few more times and head to Downtown Disney to do some shopping. We eat a late lunch at Rainforest Cafe and head to the airport around 4:00. We normally get the 6:50 flight home.

If we have any time left, we get in a round of minature golf!!

We also drive the last day and get up at the crack of dawn and headout. I consider my last day to be the day before and on that day in the past we have done three parks in one day and will try to do all four this year. We would have done all four the last two trips but it has been GayDay at MK and it's so packed that we have done the other three.

Thank you all for such great ideas!!

I've also learned that the Swan/Dolphin have a late check-out option. I'll have to further investigate this. Anyone know more about late check-out?

The idea of a character b'fast on our last day sounds good. We'll see what we didn't get to
do enough of by our last day, and take it from there.

I envy all of you who live close enough to drive to Disney World! You are sooo lucky! ;)

Our family checks out late like 1 P.M. then we go to downtown disney to do our biggest shopping. Then when we have a lot of time to go to the airport still, we drive on international drive to waste time.

Last year we left at 5:00 in the morning to drive straight thru back to Illinois.

This year, we will sleep in, eat breakfast, and hopefully have time for a swim. Then we'll leave for home and drive 1/2 way :)
