I keep seeing it spelt both ways here!

I spell it as: WEIRD.

The whole "i before e except after c" rule throws a lot of people.

You may see it spelled both ways here, but there's only one correct way to spell it: WEIRD.

It's the "exception" to the "I before E" rule. There's always an exception! That's what makes spelling fun!

More "I before E" spoilers: neighbor, weigh, Eisner ;)

Weird.

I before E except after C is not always right. Just look at my name- Heidi
if we followed the above rule it would be spelled Hiedi.

Weird that I had to stop and think for a moment on how to spell it!

One word that people get wrong all the time on message boards and it kills me, is the word "advice."

Seems like more people spell it "advise"... like "I need your advise on this problem." Ugghh...pet peeve.

I prefer to spell it the right way in print, but I secretly spell wrong when speaking. Is that weird?

I do a little bit of both . But mostly WEIRD.

I have misspelled this word lots of times.....so many times I am starting to convince myself it is "wierd"

I before E except after C or when sounding like A as in neighbor and weigh :teeth:

ETA- Names are a free for all!

It's a narrow minded person who spells a word just one way.

I get bugged when they spell "separate" wrong!

If you have a hard time spelling this word, try this...

Sound it out one letter at a time...

WIERD = w - eye - erd (wired -- like, "I'm wired after all that coffee.")

WEIRD = w - eee - ird (weird)

Doesn't work with every word, of course, but it helps remind me how to spell this one.

Speaking of bad spelling, I seriously just saw someone on another post write "I's," as in "belonging to I." What the heck?
