How do you solos get from airport to resort?

I do not intend to use ME or Mears and was rather shocked by the cost of the car rental last time (cost more than the flight tickets!), so I was considering a town car service. However, I feel a little weird about being the only passenger. I'm leaning toward forking over the money and renting a car, but am curious about how other solos have gotten to WDW...

I always rent a car, like I will be doing tonight! Check out the websites and look for the best rates. I don't need a big car, and it is not much more than other services. I don't use it much once there, but it comes in handy.

Hi,

Magical Express or Mears. Because I stay on property and don't drive a car, I use Disney Transit to get around WDW.

I always rent a car, I find it much easier. Try using the codes from mousesavers or priceline has worked well for me in the past...I got $12 a day last year in December.
Have fun

I used ME on my April solo trip, it was effortless (and free!) and IMHO a great way to travel solo. I don't like to drive on vacation and use WDW transportation so it made sense for me. Both legs were fairly quick with only one other resort stop. The pick up to return to the airport was 3 hours prior to my flight time but I needed every minute of it due to LONG security lines.

I used Mears shared van shuttle. It's the cheapest option (if you're staying offsite and can't use ME), and it gives you an opportunity to talk to other people!
The town car service was too expensive for me...

Also, when i'm alone, i'm not comfortable driving somewhere I don't know, because I can't look on a map AND drive at the same time.

Was your car really expensive, or do you get really really cheap airplane tickets? ;)

I have a National Emerald club and a company discount :thumbsup2 , and find MCO quite inexpensive for cars. I just looked up an intermediate Pontiac G6 for next week, and one week bottom line all total is $164. I do not consider that excessive. Under $24/day all total?

OTOH, where are you flying in from for less than that?

I loved using ME as a solo. Why aren't you using it?

I always rent a car. Keep checking prices too. Mine just dropped by about $40 from an earlier quote.

As for Town Car service, I've used a car service at home before as a solo. It's fine. If anything, I give the driver an extra tip.

I rented a car from MCO for Easter Break (yes, high-volume travel time), and the best I could get was Alamo with my NEA discount: $291 for an economy, one week. I actually enjoy driving and having that control; it's just the cost that scares me. I don't tolerate being closed in with a large number of people very well, and the only time I used Mears was just miserable - it didn't help that it took forever, and I'm meeting my kids at MGM to start our vacation, so I want to avoid delays as much as possible. I'm heartened by some of the rates I'm hearing, though, so I will actually check out some of the companies and hope that I won't see quotes like that $291. Thanks!

Twice I have used Mears (Pre-Magical Express) and the last couple times I have used a towncar service. It is so nice to be picked up at the airport in my own private car and be shuttled around to a grocery stop and then to my resort.

I used to use a towncar service for a while, but then I got a great rate for a rental car a few years ago. That got me hooked on rental cars (I love the freedom of a rental car), and I constantaly monitor my reservation for lower rates, etc. I couldn't imagine not having a car.

I usually go the towncar route myself. It is a luxury, for sure, but I like being able to meet my driver at baggage claim and be whicked away to WDW in no time. I don't feel funny at all about being the only passenger... the drivers are usually chatty, there is scenary to look at and I figure they must take solo conventioneers and businesspeople all the time.

This next trip I am thinking of renting a car to try that out, but I am still undecided on exactly what I am going to do.

I always use the Disney shuttle, whether Mears or not...pre-ME....Cheap, don't need to go off-site so I don't need a car...can't imagine trying to stuff my scooter, luggage, Service Dog in a car, anyway...

A towncar is nothing more than an appointment with a cab. I think that "worst" that could happen is that they mistakenly think you're traveling for work rather than pleasure. Book it, save yourself the hassle of Orlando highways and enjoy the trip.

On my last two solo trips I took DME one way from the airport, rented a car from National the following day with pick up at the Dolphin. I returned the car back at the airport. Since I used DME, I took advantage of the luggage delivery to the room. Since my trip was short, I liked having a car to get quickly from place to place, including back to the airport.
Since my trip was less than 5 days, it was cheaper to rent a car for the exact number of 24 hour periods that I needed..I even had a free day coupon for one of the rentals.

I usually use Mears, but will use DME on my upcoming trip. As I never leave WDW property, I don't bother renting a car.

I'd rent the smallest cheapest car I could find or I'd have a car service round trip, for pick up at and return to the airport.

We most recently used Happy Limo Service and were quite pleased...probably about 2 years ago. Since then we have rented a car. We use National's Emerald Aisle or Alamo's Silver Club (or whatever they call it).

I've used 3 different methods-Mears, DME, and Town Car. I'd use DME as long as that's free. I found the Town Car too expensive, and I did feel rather strange being the only passenger besides the driver. I preferred DME or Mears, where there are other people who can share in the excitement of getting to WDW. On one recent trip, when we crossed under the arch to WDW, one woman on the bus started applauding, so soon everyone else broke into applause. I wouldn't think of renting a car-I'd probably get lost so many times! As it is, when DH and I go together, it takes 2 of us to get around WDW with a rental car-one to drive, the other to read the road signs/map and navigate.

I always rent the cheapest car I can find (usually through Thrifty) because I like the flexibility. Also because I leave the resort area a few times.

Amazingly enough, last summer the cheapest car rental I found was an SUV :rotfl2: I'm sure it's because no one wanted to rent them with gas prices. I think I paid $12/day by renting off-site?
