I wonder if it's a regional thing?

BTW, WTH is a soup tureen?

It's a soup serving... serving dish. ;) Think punch bowl, but with a lid. Whenever you see shows and movies where rich people are being served soup at a long table out of a fancy big bowl, that's a soup tureen. Mine sees the light of day once a year. :rotfl:

I guess I knew that...just didn't really think anyone owned one.

Pretty huh?? :lmao:

I plate everything in the kitchen for DH and I and bring it to the table. I don't like pots at the table and there's no way I'd dirty serving dishes--too much to clean up!

If anyone wants seconds they take their plate back in the kitchen and serve themselves.

Well, my dad does all of our cooking. He serves from the pot, then brings us whatever we're eating into to living room, and we watch TV. :rotfl:

On a normal night (with no company) I will either leave the food on the stove and we get it from there or I will bring the food to the table - depends on my mood :) My dh and dd13 serve themselves - and either DH or I will get food ready for dd1.
If we have company - all the food goes into serving dishes and is placed on the table.

DW and I tend to service ourselves, but we still tend to serve things up for the kids. Sometimes we serve from the pots and pans, sometimes from serving dishes. We're pretty wild and unpredictible.

(HELLO I've been married to your son for 11 years and you're only picking up on this now?!?!)
.Tsk tsk on me as that's apparently not a good enough reason for dear MIL. (I don't give two hoots what she thinks so I am not losing any sleep over it)

Ugh...Mother in laws!!!!!!

I realized my response comes across as snotty, and I didn't mean for it to be. So I'm deleting so to avoid someone taking it the wrong way =)

Interesting thread!
