How Do You Say Grace?

We usually say:

Lord, as You blessed the loaves and fishes,
Bless the food upon these dishes.
And as the sugar in the tea,
May our lives be stirred by Thee.
Amen.

Some friends of ours say:

God of goodness, bless our food
Keep us in a pleasant mood.
Bless the chef and all who serve us,
From indigestion, Lord, preserve us.
Amen.

When the whole family is together, my brother in law usually says grace. But sometimes my 6 yr old niece likes to. It is very cute. She asks God to bless our food, to bless everyone she knows, and to bless our doggies too! Last time she asked God to help her sister be good. Not to sure what brought that on. We all looked at her older sis, who just sat their with a look of total confusion on her face. It makes for an interesting dinner!

When I was little, we always said Grace before dinner-adults did it silently-my brothers and I said in unison:
Thank you Lord for my food, Amen.

Now my kids say the same out loud, but I added to it:

Thank you Lord for my food and for my family. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

A little girl in church said the cutest one, I don't remember all of it and I have googled to no avail:

Thank you for the sunshine
thank you for the rain
thank you for the fertile soil
thank you for the grain....
???

I learned this in Girl Scouts and in grade school:

Oh, the Lord's been good to me.
And so I thank the Lord
For giving me the things I need:
The sun, the rain and the appleseed;
Oh, the Lord's been good to me.

Hey tigger .. :welcome: glad you decided to join the party:

Do you know the 2nd verse to Johnny Appleseed?

And for every seed I sow,
An apple tree will grow
And then there be an apple tree
For everyone in the world to see
The lord is good to me.
Johnny appleseed (double clap)
AMEN!

That is exactly how I say it (and I'm 32!!) Don't laugh, but I've said it like that so long if you slow it down the words get messed up! :rotfl2:

I grew up catholic and am right now living with my catholic grandparents....if you don't say that part fast prayers could last for 10 minutes because grandma adds 2 other prayers every night....it's the time where we all try not to yawn!

I would love to say a different prayer every night but the girls seem to love the "roteness" of either Come Lord Jesus or Blessus
