ok this is a completely random question.

how do you say and spell the name Bailey for a girl?

how do you say it Bay-lee or Bale-e

I decided that is my new favorite baby name (hubby doesnt want to anymore kids but I am getting the itch again)

I am thinking I like

Bayleigh ( pronounced (bay-lee) but is that too close to Ryleigh ?( my cousin's new baby)

I have an Emma and Chase

Don't go with goofy spellings-your child will FOREVER be spelling their name for EVERYONE.

I pronounce it bay-lee.

That's how we do it for our Golden Retriever. ::yes::

Spell it Bailey and pronounce it Bale - e.

If you pronounce it Bay-lee, she'll be forever correcting people on the pronunciation. Don't make it difficult on the child or on her future teachers. ::yes::

I have a cousin Bailey, he pronounces it Bale-ey. For a girl I would spell it Baylee, but I wouldn't go to crazy with the spelling.
My dd is Haley. Before she was born I wanted to spell it Hayleigh but dh didn't like it. I'm so glad we went with the simple version, I can actually find things with her name on it :thumbsup2

I pronounce it Bale-e - but, if I saw it spelled the way you did, I WOULD say Bay-lee. I dont find the spelling that crazy and it does make people say it the way you want it said. (I like it, but, if you care about this sort of thing, there are _3_ Baileys in my sons preschool - popular name right now.) Good luck w/ changing the hubbys mind!:thumbsup2 :goodvibes

I heard them both at my daughter's recital this weekend. I also heard a name I never heard before Meighread..pronounced may read

My daughter's name is Spenser Baylee. At the time, we loved the name Baylee, but my cousin had named her little girl Bailey before my DD was born. Therefore, we used it as her middle name with a different spelling. I personally like unique names or names with a different than normal spelling.

I would spell it Bailey and pronounce it Bay-Lee. I have only seen Bailey used for girls names though.

My friends lab is named Bailey and its pronuounced Bale-e as is my other friends pit bull- its a very popular pet name.

Baylee is a friend in Preschool and it is said "bale-lee" here in PA

I pronouce it just like Bailey's Irish Cream. Bale-Lee

Personally, I love this name.

My youngest daughter (one of my twins) is named Bailey. I almost always prefer the standard spelling of a name. We pronounce her name Bay-lee.

Color me confused, because as far as I know, Bailey (and that is the accepted spelling) has only one pronunciation. Long a, long e. Accent goes on the first syllable. ::yes::

Really? As I said above my daughter is Bailey (pronounced bay-lee). I've actually never heard it pronounced any other way. Her twin is Taylor (we pronounce it Tay-lor). I do get people that pronounce her name tailor...don't like that.

DD15 has a friend (girl) named Bailey. It is pronounced Bale-ee. I prefer the Bailey spelling to any of the more unusual versions.

Let me take my confusion a step further. (I must confess that all this Bale-e and Bay-lee business is giving me a headache. :lmao: ) The two syllables are divided between the long a and the "l" sound.

In other words, the first syllable consists of the "b" and the long "a." This is the accented syllable. The second syllable consists of the "l" and the long "e." The first syllable rhymes with "day" and the second rhymes with words like "me, be and he."

If the first syllable included the "l" sound, then it would rhyme with "bail" as in "bail out out jail" or "bale of hay." It sounds awkward to say BALE-eee. BAY-lee flows much more smoothly....like the Bailey's Irish Cream someone mentioned. Perhaps everyone is actually saying it the same, just interpreting "Here's how I pronounce it," differently??? :confused3

Think "daily." It rhymes with that.
