How do you save at Jcpenney?

I used to get a lot of my "nice" clothes at JCP when they had sales and clearance. I haven't bought anything there in more than a year, though.

From a Grandma's point of view . . . . I shopped there last week looking for sweatshirts for me and was told that they are targetting much younger customers!!! Soooo much for your Grandma's store. I left with nothing.

I think I'm the only one that loves JCP more now than before!
I love all the new lines they're carrying. I feel like its much less of a store my grandma would shop in full of mom jeans but yet trendy for those of us that are too old to shop at Hollister or American Eagle.
Yes, while its true they no longer off "coupons" or "sales" --- they've priced their items at the price I paid for those things at the "sale" price but now I can buy them when I want or not just during early bird hours or whatever the scheme was at that time.
I am really enjoying the new direction JCP is going. I can't wait to see all the changes continue to unfold. There are a million like minded, in the box dept stores (Kohls, Sears, Dillard's) and I'm excited to see a store breaking the mold. It's fun. It's new. It's different.
And I think that's the main part. People are taken aback by change some.

But point of the post is I save the same as I always have at JCP but now I can do it when I want and not when the sale flyer and hours say so.

I really like their new merchandise too. It's cute and inexpensive and not the same stuff I see everywhere else. I love not having to remember to take along coupons or go when there is a coupon in effect.

Add me to the not so impressed list. Used the $10 uncoupon and after walking around the store, used it for a $10 novelty tshirt for Christmas.

What JCP forgot is that most malls are full of 20something stores, but 40somethings have the money. They completely abandoned the demo who have the money in a tight economy to shop at their stores.

I just don't see JCP lasting after the holiday shopping season. They are offering nothing for Black Friday (a button, really?), the merchandise is sitting in the stores so long it has to be reduced to $2 to move it.

It almost seems like they are trying to go out of business.

I like the new JCP, and the feel of the store - they seem to be going down the path of Target (which I also love). I would buy their exclusive lines (to me seem nice) but would not buy Carters or other brands I could get elsewhere for cheaper.

That said, I really cannot stand Kohls... I always seem to spend way more than expected and even with the bonus cash it doesn't seem to add up to good savings (unless I can get something on the clearance racks).

For kids clothes, I have gotten the cheapest stuff at Gymboree lately (I know, crazy but was able to get $2 shirts last month).

I don't really shop for myself anymore except at the end of season clearances - I prefer Ann Taylor Loft over most other places... dept stores like Macys are just too overwhelming for me I guess. JCP seems more simplified, which I like so if I ever decide to shop for myself again I guess I'll head there...

I only go in JCP for makeup and perfume. I love the Sephora brand of makeup and I like being able to look at the colors. However, if JCP goes out of business I will just order the stuff online anyway!

I love the new JCP. I have bought my last 3 work Christmas party dresses there and gotten good deals and lots of compliments, very stylish. I never used to really shop there before. I think its a good happy medium. I've found good, cool cute work clothes as well. I have given up on Kohls for womens clothes or shoes they are way overpriced and try and convince you that you are saving money with the coupons. Their styles and designers just dont appeal to me at all.I do like their toddler shoes though. I agree with the good luck at Gymboree, i get crazy good deals there. That said, I agree that JCP prob wont make it but at least thought they improved the last few years.

I went there today and saw lots of really nice things. They had nice bras on clearence for $7. I bought a really nice shirt for $20 that was almost the same as the $60 on I saw at kohls that would have only been 30% off. I am 32 and have to dress in pants, cute tops and jacket for work and have restocked my wardrobe in the past few months and I found most of it at pennys. I really like the new store and I liked the old store. I also found some great Carters baby clothes on clearance for $3 an outfit!

For me - I may actually try to hit the JCP near my house - I really want to get DD a pair of the boots - and it seems like many styles will be available for $35 and for $40.

It would be even better if they would be online on Thursday at those prices.:rotfl:

But - we have a JCP in a strip mall fairly close to our house. So - it won't kill me to look there. (Of course - I'll need my college DD to somehow get me a list of what styles she likes for this plan to work ;))

Add me to the hate the changes and think they'll go under team.

There are a million stores for teenagers and early 20 somethings. JCP isn't going to take over that market.

I do not understand at all the idea that they are somehow being "revolutionary" by doing that choppy little boutique thing with a bunch of brand-specific arrangements in the store. Lots of stores have been doing this for years. Has their management never set foot inside Macys?

I hate that layout. If I want a new pair of dress pants, I don't especially care what brand they are. I want to go to a location where all the dress pants are, pick out a bunch and try them on. I don't want to spend an eternity going from boutique to boutique trying to hunt down the dress pants.

About the only thing I buy there anymore is costume jewelry on clearance. I don't have the time or the patience to shop there, the selection has gone down the drain, and the prices are nothing to write home about. There are no sales that make me willing to put up with the new format.

I got myself 2 really nice dresses for under 30.00. I have also gotten DD16 a lot of her clothes there. The prices were reasonable even without coupons. My biggest issue is that they have demolished their boys department. They had nothing to choose from for my DD11. Mil went for summer shopping and I still had to take him to Kohls, because they had no selection. So I shop there for DD. Last tiem I was ther eit looked like my dept didn't have much either.

When I went to spend the 10, I couldn't find much (I had been there days before for DD). I eventually just used it on some K-cups.

They do have a rewards program. You just have to register your credit card with them. I have one of my credit cards registered, so I always use that card when I shop there. I can't remember how much you need to spend to get a reward, but I have gotten $10.00 rewards a few times.

Although I really don't like the new JCP. There selection is really bad. I don't even mind the new pricing. I just can't find things I like in there. I took my last $10.00 coupon, and ended up spending an hour looking for something to spend it on. I did get 2 pairs of clearance shorts for my DS for our upcoming trip to Disney. They were $5.00 each.

Exactly! My DD16 wouldn't even think of JCP when she needs something. Even last Spring when she needed a Prom dress and was checking out Department stores, she looked at Macy's and Nordstrom but not JCP.

I shop there for clearance since the prices are so low. I usually find t shirts for $3 to $5 and the seasonal clothes usually are marked down for next to nothing. Last week I bought 2 pairs of shorts for $0.25 each and earlier this year my dad and I each got winter jackets that were tagged for $120 for $6 each.

The clearance is really good there but even the clearance racks are hit and miss. Look at their website for good deals on services besides clothes though!

The entire month of August, they had free haircuts for children. For the entire month of November (this month) they have free family portraits for the holidays!! We just made our appt!

But for clothes on a normal basis, I don't even bother. I usually eye the sale racks but when there aren't any, it's very hard to see how you're saving.

I had $20 in gift cards to JCp and spent way too much time wandering around the store trying to find something to buy. The selection just seems to be very poor to me, and I didn't used to think that. I couldn't believe that I essentially had free money to spend and was so frustrated that I couldn't find anything cute at all. EventuallyI gave up and bought some bath towels just to get out of the store.

I work at JCPenney and I have for two years now. I love not having to deal with coupons as an associate but it's bleak and sad to see it this year in comparison to the last two years. What is even sadder is I can walk through the store and not see very many things that I would want to buy.

Some of the new items I like, but I think there are more that I don't. Not having Mickey snowglobes this year is a bummer. I can say that I LOVE not any extended sale hours.

I do think that financial comparisons from last year to this year are not fair as it was a different concept last year (coupons and sales). The CEO has said that they are treating the company as a start up.

I will also say that the other day I was in Kohl's and the amount of merchandise in the store was overwhelming. I have become very accustomed to how spread out and neat JCPenney has their stores now. I wish we had a bit more merchandise for Christmas but Kohl's was so crowded that it made me appreciate how nice our store looks.

It'll be interesting to see how everything turns out.

I used to by shoes there all the time but with the new conversion they stopped seeling them. They are targeting the teens. The quality of clothes has changed to Sears where it is cheaper quality for designer brand prices. Sad :(

The CEO has to say something to defend the declining sales.;)
JCP is not a start-up, it had a loyal customer base. Unfortunately this CEO decided that those people were not the people he wanted shopping in his stores anymore. He is failing miserably, there is no point in "starting up" a company that has been around for decades, especially when there is nothing new to make your start-up stand out. Like the pp's have mentioned, malls are filled with stores catering to the teens and young adults. His idea of attracting new customers isn't working and probably won't because of all the stores that already cornering that market, all its is doing is driving loyal customers away. Any retail company, start up or otherwise, can't survive without customers :confused3

They main thing that bothers me about shopping at JCP is the lack of registers now. You shouldn't have to search the store for a register and at my store it is in the back of the store not near the entrance coming in from the mall. I think their prices are quite reasonable now and sometimes I am surprised when I shop there and I look at the price and it's so low. I don't know about what someone said that they looked at the ad and it didn't seem like quality. When can you see quality without actually touching and seeing construction? I am in 40's and dress with all the latest trends and I find plenty of items I like and I shop and buy clothing every week for myself at all the stores. I don't like to spend top dollar for trendy clothes because I may only wear them a year or two. I'd rather spend more for the classic basics that I will wear for years.
