How do you rent DVC points?

I am new to the board and heard about it thrugh mousesavers.com and I am wondering how renting points works?I am planning a WDW vacation September or October 2005 and I want to stay in the park,but it is so darn expensive! I live in Canada and I'm not sure if I can rent points or not.I am looking to rent at the Wilderness lodge and the dvc points scale says I need about 103-106 points,how much would that cost me? Enough of the babble,could someone please give me more info? I also wonder is this fullproof or are you taking a chance of getting taken for a ride(so to speak)!

Diva, since you've already found the 'rent/trade' board tip number 1 is to go back there and do some reading. There are FAQ's at the top of each of the DVC forums.

You can also use the search function in these forums.

There is no formal 'renting' per se...it's all negotiated between the rentor and rentee. Expect to pay about $10 US/pt for the time being.

I'm with Joe on this. Read all you can. There is nothing better than an informed renter!

In answer to your "taken for a ride" question, no it is not foolproof, because there is an element of trust that needs to be between renter and owner. But that being said, if you read a lot on these boards and get used to the posters, you will get a good idea about who you would be comfortable with. You are wise in starting to look now, to ensure availability for your trip. And Canadians can rent!

The thing to remember is that you are not really renting points. A member is using their points to make a reservation for you. The points are worthless to non-members. You will be paying the member for the reservation, not for the points.
