I keep on hearing great things about the Boma restaurant in the Animal Kingdom Resort. Is it really that good?

In our 9 days at Disney it was by far my favorite meal. The food is so flavorful and different. The desert bar was outstanding and the ambiance was great. We have it as the first meal for our trip this year. I can't wait to go back!

It okay. I liked it and all, but it's not as good as I expected. I would go back, but it's not a must do.

Then again, I also didn't really get the big deal about Le Cellier either.

We enjoy Boma but don't go every trip. Its not for the picky eater although they do have some traditional carved meats and other items. AKL is a beautiful lodge to visit. After dark there are CM's outside with night vision goggles to view the animals in one of the three viewing areas.

Very popular and also very crowded. We stayed at AKL and, coming back from a park, would still see it packed at 9:00 pm! We ate there once and got our seats only about 10 minutes after our ADR's, not bad. And the meal was very good, great variety, great flavor, great soups, etc. Dessert bar was just okay. Main complaint was, because of the crowd, the meat section (at the far right of the buffet) got packed to where there was a long line to get to that food. Literally a 5-10 minute wait standing in line. That was a turn-off and would take the overall experience down from 5 stars to 4 stars (on a 5 star scale).

I'm curious about this too as we are staying at Kidani Village in a few weeks. I'm worrried about whether or not my family would like the food though.

We love Boma, and have been there for dinner and breakfast. For the picky eater, there is a station where traditional kiddie food items, like mac and cheese, chicken strips, pasta and red sauce, etc., are available. For everyone else, there's so much to choose from - carved meats, soups, and African menu items. You'll recognize most items on the buffet table - some are just a little different because they've been spiced differently.

Our family really likes it because it's in beautiful AKL, and the food is unique and good.

We went for breakfast. I don't like buffets and I'm not a breakfast fan (I usually just like some fruit and coffee for breakfast and then eat an early lunch). So naturally I was not impressed. I didn't like any of the exotic options so it was nothing special.

The only way I'd ever eat there again is if we were staying in AKL. To me it wasn't worth getting over there.

That's just me though. Tony's is also my favorite restaurant so shows how much I know! :rotfl2:

The first time we went to Boma, it was for dinner in September of 2007, and I was the only one in the family who was impressed. My DH and kids are pretty picky when it comes to foods that are "abnormal" to their daily diets, have "weird" spices, etc. They all ate some of the carved meats (although they even whined a little bit about those - the spice rubs tasted "funny") and some basic buffet offerings like fresh fruit, desserts, etc. The kids and even my DH also grazed off the "kids" station. They didn't really like it at all, and don't want to go back. :sad2: I am, by far, much more adventurous in my tastes, and I thought it was wonderful. I will go back again some day, maybe on a "girls only" trip with friends or something.

The second time, we went for breakfast in October of 2010. Everyone enjoyed this MUCH more. Although there were some dishes with "unique" touches (scrambled eggs with goat cheese, bobotie, Frunch :cloud9:) there were also a lot of traditional breakfast buffet fare for the Picky People. The fresh fruit was wonderful, and OH the Frunch! I recently learned to recreate it and served it at Thanksgiving to 20-odd people. Everyone raved about it.

One of our favorites. So much to choose from and different things to try.
We have been there on great nights and some when the food wasn't as good as it usually is. It is still on our top list of places to go.

It is my favorite restaurant in WDW. I've eaten at most of the restaurants and still find this to be my only must-do restaurant every trip!

It is our favourite buffet in all of WDW. I really like that they have food choices that are different from the usual run of the mill buffet. We always dine at the AKL on our AK day(s) and alternate between Boma and Sanaa.

We are not fan of buffets as they are noisy and we are not big eaters. However, Boma offers a great selection of dishes that you just don't get in most places. For that reason, we occasionally go to Boma.

We love it. I have two teenage boys and a picky wife and we all enjoy that we can try different things without the worry of choosing from a menu and picking one item that we don't like.

It's a buffet, but I like to think of it as more of a Tapas stye, not an "all you can eat". Boma lets you sample a wide range of exotic tastes. By the time you have sampled the many choices, you will be too full to repeat the ones you liked, but you still will.

Then you get to sample a few desserts...

Plus, like others mentioned, the AK is well worth exploring.

But, I also feel that the most hyped restaurants on these boards, don't live up to they hype. They may be the best, but I have found, that the lower my expectations are, the more I enjoy the meal and vice versa.

We really like Boma but it is such a pain to get to. Everytime we say we aren't going to go, but we end up going because we remember how good it is. I think they have a large selection for breakfast and dinner. Even my very picky dd likes it.

NOTE: Boma is an outstanding buffet for breakfast.
For dinner it's below average and worth passing by.
African and Middle Eastern foods are typically spiced
with cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, cardamom, etc, which
can make food appear sweet to the taste buds.If doing
dinner, go for the soups, and leave the meats,
salads, the desserts for someone else. (There now
are fifteen different soups at five per night.) Bring out
the ear plugs, as it does get noisy.

We went for the first time in Oct. We did the dinner buffet. We thought it was ok. The food was fine but it just wasn't as good as I was expecting.

At $200.00 for a Family of Four for a buffet dinner - I can't justify in any way. But, I agree about the breakfast! If I can sneak out and leave my teenagers in bed, it is awesome.

I think we are alone in how we feel about Boma. We went last trip because of the great reviews. First it was a complete pain to get to, it seemed to take forever. Second, none of us really enjoyed it. The back up at the meat station was huge and it took a long time to get any food. We also did not think it was very good. It was actually everyone's least favorite meal and one we will not try again.
