I draw out the "e" so it sounds like the "a" "lay" when I say "egg" "Meg" "leg" etc.

People have always made fun of me for it.

Wow, never thought about that one, but you've got me saying it out loud and I use a long a sound at the beginning. It takes effort and feels funny to make a short e sound. I know I'm in the wrong on this.
