I have a Laura, and we pronounce it LAH-rah, except when we lived in Spanish-speaking countries, when it was La-OOH-Rah. We still call her that when we're goofin' around.

Another one: Collette. We say Cah-LET, some say Co-let, some say CO-let. I always think the owner of the name should make the decision.

Someone asked about the name Sara --- that is actually my middle name, and I pronounce it exactly the same as Sarah. I've never heard it said any other way. S-air-a.

Funny, I have never met a Laurie who's name wasn't pronounced Lori, or a Lauren who's name wasn't pronounced Loren. My name is also a "au" name, with the "o" sound. Around here, Sara is not pronounced S-air-a, but Sara (the a sounding the same as the a in hat, mat).

To me, all of these are pronounced the same. I've never heard them pronounced differently, and I've traveled quite a bit around the US.

Lauri, Laurie, Lori (L-or-ee)

Sara, Sarah (S-air-ah) (I think Sara is a prettier spelling--that's my DD's first name, although she goes by her middle name)

Loren, Lauren (L-or-en) The difference in this one is that Loren is a male name to me, and Lauren is a female name.
