How do you "pay" in the parks?

I use cash only....I put aside some for each day and leave the rest in my room vault. We do not purchase anything big (the trip is our big gift to ourselves) so this works well for us. I can't spend everything at the beginning of the trip because I leave the rest behind. I have no debit card and a small credit card for emergency's only :)
Since we use the DDP I only have to worry about one meal aday and some drinks /snacks.

First trip 13 years ago when we had a Disney Store, I used Disney Dollars and cash.

This year I ordered a gift card that can be used @ WDW from DisneyShopping, but I am also taking cash and my credit card with me.

We pay with travelers check, then the cash from the change from the travelers checks.

Just a couple more comments after reading the rest of the posts.

As long as you are staying at a WDW resort, you can have purchases sent back to your room. The method of payment has nothing to do with it.

When you check into your resort, you will need a credit card on file; however, you can decline charging privileges on any or all of the ID cards issued.

I've never given a credit card at check in. Just decline. I don't give it over the phone for ressies either, I use disney gift cards. I've never used a credit card at disney.

For the original question...I use a mix of cash, gift cards, disney dollars and traveler's checks. Usually we'll have a set gift card for souvies, then I have disney dollars or cash allotted for the day. If I plan any adr, I use a gift card or cash for that. I take a few traveler's checks, that I cash out at the front desk every few days. You can put cash on the kttwc for charging if you want that convenience, but you don't HAVE to have a cc linked.

I do bring my cc just in case of emergencies (dd broke her ankle while there once, so this was good for the care center, as our insurance was pay now/reimburse later).

last trip I used cash or traveller's checks. I didn't want to use the traveller's checks because I hate doing that, but my mom convinced me. I don't think I used my debit card at all. I use it all the time at home though.

What I would love for WDW to do it have a debit option for the KTTW card. At the beginning of the trip put all your money (or whatever amount) onto you card and it just gets deducted. I'd go way to out of control, probably, if I chose the cc option!

You can do this, you just give them cash at check in and it will work the same way. I'm not sure you can give them all your money, there may be limits per hotel, but you can go down and add more if you use the limit up.

I did this once...I cashed a traveler's check and put cash on the kttwc. But you are right, it made it way harder for me to budget, I just kept swiping that card. Now, I give myself what I need for the day and the rest stays as t.c. in the safe. Hey, they say the first step is to admit your problem, right? :rotfl:

OK, we will be a group of 5, 2 of the five are my daughter and her best friend (my house guest), who will be sharing one room while my mother, myself and son are sharing another room. They are both over 21, so the house guest does not want to carry money in the parks, so now the question, Can she put cash on her KTTW card, that only is applied to her card and can she get back any unused portion at the end of the trip?

Also, We are on the DDP, both room reservations are in my name but have different numbers, when we eat at Table service restaurants, will one card do to pay the bill, or will they need one card from each room? Basically what I am asking is the DDP for both rooms connected on all cards, or because we are in seperate rooms are they seperated?

Thanks for any answer as I have never done more than one room before.

I carry cash, one credit card, and my disney room key for charging. Keep your wallet handy, as you will want to use your park tickets often for fast passes. I NEVER bring my purse as it becomes a pain to carry around. Just get a wallet that you can wear around your neck or one that will fit in your front pocket.

Can you put tips on a Disney gift card on the dining plan? Or is it better to put on KTTW and pay off with gift card?

I'm going to pay cash in the parks. When I have to pay a high price I'm going to use my cc.

I plan on taking traveller's check, CC and some cash.

Has anyone had problems cashing the traveller's checks? :confused3 It has been a few years since I used them, but the last time we were at WDW quite a few of the CM's told me that I should not have signed the traveller's checks.

I told them the bank made me sign them and then when I make a purchase at WDW I would then countersign. I remember more than one CM adamantly disagreeing that they should have been signed at the bank. No one refused to cash the traveller's check, but I thought a few time they were not going to.

Kind of off topic, but do they charge for using the safes at the DW resorts? Thanks for the advice.

I have heard of having different credit cards tied to each KTTW card. I guess if they can do credit cards then I don't see why they can't do cash. However, also from what I hear, it is very difficult to try to get done. Most CM's say it can't be done but CM's on the boards here say it can be done. It just takes a little bit of time and a nice "Are you sure?". If you are able to get it done then you would get the cash back at the end of the trip if there is a balance. Just to save the hastle it might be easier to just have her put some money on a gift card? I don't think you would get any cash back though if there was a balance.

For the dining plan since you have separate reservation number most likely each room will have its own allotment of credits. So you would have to let your server know that you have two dining plans and who is on what plan. It is pretty easy. They will bring you two separate bills. Just give them the card that goes with each bill.

One other piece of advice if you decide to have charging privledges added to the KTTW cards is to double check your dining credits after paying. I have heard, not alot but every now and then, the server or cashier charges your room instead of the dining plan. If you don't check it you might be in for a suprise at the end of your stay when you see a restaurant charge on your room bill or if you somehow reach your charging limit on the card and you weren't expecting it. You have to go to the front desk to get it fixed. Some people recommend having one KTTW card set-up without charging privledges so this can't happen.

For our recent trip, I had purchased Disney dollars as we sold various things around the house and had an extra dollar here or there along with our Visa Reward points, we had all of our meals and extras covered.

Now, I paranoid that Disney will go out of Business or be purchased by the goverment before our next trip (2-3 years from now) and our Disney dollars will be wasted!

Guess this GM thing is making me paranoid!

I use my KTTW which has my husband's CC associated to :lovestruc:rotfl:;):rolleyes1
