Me and family wife kids (8,5) out going for our first family trip to disney world. We are going Oct 23-30 and staying at Saratora Springs with another couple in 2 bedroom 2 bath. I purchased tickets for parks and MNSSHP. So my question is what do I use to pay for food, snacks, gifts and misc stuff. I usually dont carry cash just AMEX was thinking of doing some giftcards. Any ideas, or is cash easier?

Thanks for Help Jim:yay:

Cash is accepted everywhere. Or you could put a credit card on file with your resort account and then use your KTTW card to pay for just about everything. If you don't want those charges to be sent to your credit card for processing, just stop at the front desk before check out and pay it off with cash or gift cards.

Personally, I like to just charge it all back to my room and then settle it all up when I get the bill at home.l But if I have a lot of gift cards, then I take them to the front desk to pay my bill around the middle of my trip and then again the night before we depart.

I just use my CC and pay it off when I get home. I do make it so I can charge on my KTTW card but prefer my CC.

Jim - They take all forms of payment in the parks, it's just a business. Personally, I want a record of my spending, such as a credit card transaction or room tab. I'm not a cash person, I can't keep track of it as well as credit card transactions.

When I went in January I had bought enough Disney GCs at my local grocery store because there was a GC deal, to pay for my dining tips (I got free dining!), and minor stuff on my room tab. The night before our trip was over, I went to the front desk of my hotel and paid the tab w/ my GCs. No problems, it was not unusual either. Some people say charge whatever you can on the room tab, because most discrepancies can be fixed easier than on a credit card. Such as, if you were charged twice for something, etc. When you check into your WDW resort your room key is your Key to the World, which you use to charge things to your room as well as everything else is attached to that card. HTH!:thumbsup2

We usually put the Disney Reward card on our room, then use the KTTW card to charge everything. Pay it off when we get home and have more points started for the next Disney trip.

We do occasionally use gift cards as we've gotten some as Christmas gifts before a trip. Depending on the amount we'll give those to the kiddos as their spending money. Any extras, we treat ourselves to special desserts or a meal we wouldn't normally want to shell out the big bucks for.

I buy gift cards that we use for spending money. We did one trip where we just charged everything to our KTTW card and holy bill! We were not thinking and just spent like crazy. Never again. So we use gift cards and carry cash on us. I know a lot of people don't like to carry cash but it works for us. We have charged some stuff onto the KTTW card but we try to not charge everything to it.

Oh and I forgot to add that we go every day and check our bill if we charge to our KTTW card. It helps us keep track of how much we've spent and keeps us in check.

Oh, yes. I always make sure I keep the receipts and know pretty much where we are on our spending throughout the trip. We had a "holy cow" moment on our honeymoon cruise and make sure not to do that anymore. (It's just too easy to write your room number down with the drinks of the hour come by. :drinking1 :rotfl: )

Some great idea's I will prob charge to room unless i see so good giftcard deals pop up. Will it matter that i rented someones DVC?
Jim

We use our debit card. We opened a separate checking account just for vacation money, so we use that card. I really like it, because there is no guilt or regret since every penny in there has already been marked as vacation money.

We charge everything to our room, pay it off with our disney visa (for points) and then pay the disney visa off as soon as we get home.

Are you on the dining plan? we always get a dining plan. the last two times we got the quick service. had great food on it too! that way we didn't have to worry about too many transactions. we like knowing that all we need to buy are a few things gifts and trinkets and the rest is already paid for when we get there.
The disney gift cards are great. we use those pretty much everything else. we have cc for emergency tho
