How do you pack bottled water on the airplane??

We're getting 2 cases delivered. Figuring that we'll be drinking atleast 2 a day and I refuse to pay $2+ for a bottle of water in the parks :sad2: when I can go to BJ's and get 35 for $6!!!

What service are you using to get water delivered? I figure water and juice boxes would be great for the kids.

Maybe I'm just not getting this, but why would anyone travel with a case of water? In case you didn't realize it, they sell water here in Orlando.

Albertson's was selling cases last week for $3.99. Publix usually sells it for $5-$6 per case.

Am I missing something here? :confused3

I don't get this either! I can understand not buying water in the parks...but what about taking a cab to a grocery store or having wegoshop deliver it?

Bottled water is really heavy. The last thing our family needs in the airport is to be lugging bottled water in our suitcases.

Personally I travel either by myself or with 1 other person. It's not worth it for me to rent a car to go to the store or to get wegoshop deliver ($15 delivery + tip). So I will pack my water bottles. I refuse to pay $2 a bottle also and would rather spend the $ on other stuff in the park... :)

So I either pack it really well in my suitcase or I will pack a separate box filled with water and food I can make in my room (before everybody freaks out, I'm a DVC member so I will have at least a microwave... :teeth: .

Yes they are heavy, but all I have to do is get them checked in and the airline takes care of everything until I get to MCO.

That's just MHO tho, everyone's different.

My DBF would rather spend the $2/bottle rather than lugging water, but hey he can buy his own water... :rotfl:

I checked a large wheeled cooler with a case a frozen water bottles. I used magical express so I did not have to lug it around the airport. It was awesome. I'd toss a few water bottles in my backpack and I had cold water all day! And I saved a ton of money. I didn't buy my water in Orlando because I wanted cold water. I also didn't want to waste time in a grocery store. The cooler worked out great.

UPDATE*****
I ordered my water from staples over the phone(2 cases). I was asked if I was a reward member and said no. I join all she had to do was check a box in the computer. This is a free membership. Just one of those frequent buyer cards. Now this entitles me to free shipping. She asked for my hotels address and when I was going to check in.
She said that the water will be there that day from 9-5. I even got an email confirmation with a reference number.
How easy is that. I bought 48 water bottles delivered to the hotel for $11.91.I think this is a really big bargain. Why would you want to schlepp water thru the airport. Now all I need to do is figure a way to get one of those stryofoam cheap coolers. I do not have a car.
As another option, I will bring some small kitchen bags and put ice in them inside the garbage cans.
Thanks everyone for all the advice.
I am still going to keep my fingers crossed that the water does arrive. I am still a little nervous, since it was soooo easy.

Have you thought about getting one of those collapsable coolers???

I found a nice one (well insulated) that I folded flat in my suitcase. In the room in just unfolded, filled with ice and it kept things cold very nicely. Going home I used it as a carry-on to hold my precious souvies.

Just thought I'd add a note, although I'm glad I read about Staples delivering...definitely going to try that next time!!!

We flew SW from Buffalo last September and when we checked in they asked if we had any liquids in the luggage and I said yes, we packed 2 cases of water (6 people) in suitcases. She said we weren't allowed to check liquids because they leak in the cargo hold due to air pressure changes and then others luggage gets soaked (even though I had them in ziplocs and wrapped in beach towels). So there we are in the airport transferring 2 cases of water, like 60 bottles, into everyones carryons!!! What a pain!!! So you might want to check with the airline and see what they say. I know...hairsprays, shampoos, and all that are liquid too, but what do I know.

We ended up buying more water at the grocery store (hey, we're Cdns not used to the heat and man, was it hot the week we were there!! plus we drink a lot of water!!). Can't stand Dasani, so no option for water in the parks, and yes, we're pretty anal about the taste of bottled water, so we didn't buy the cheap stuff at the grocery store, bought the expensive evian. I know...

So, what brand does Staples stock?

Tracey

jfap-that is a great idea, the collapsable cooler. Now I have to search around for one. Any suggestions?BJS,target, etc.
As for what brand of water. They had deer park, polland spring, nestle, and then some brands that I was not farmiliar with.
Take a look on their website, they may have something you like.

This is going to sound cheap, but this is what we did. We brought down with us a few empty water bottle. When we got to our hotel (DW hotel), we bought 2 of the refillable cups. We would fill our cups w/ water, then pour that into our water bottles. Then just pack them in our backpack that was going to the park w/ us, or throw them into our hotel refrige. Save them when they were empty to use again, or refill them in the park using their water bubblers. Like I said, sounds cheap, but worked fine for us. Have a great trip!

11/04- ASSP :cheer2:
12/7-12/12 we are going, haven't decided where to stay yet :bounce:

A rolling backpack suited us very well. We were able to pack a case in a rolling backpack and then several bottles of water in each of our carryons. This saved a ton of $$ for us.

We packed about 24 bottles before in checked luggage but we split it up over 8 suitcases so it wouldn't be too heavy. Then we each took 2 in our carryons. It worked out well for our July '03 trip. We had two rooms so we used one bathroom sink for ice & stashed our waters there to keep cool.

We are going for 2 weeks in November/December. Not so sure we'll need tons of water because it won't be hot but we'll still take some and order ice water at all of our sit-downs. And since we're flying SW, I guess we'll do it in our carryons.

We traveled the first week in July this year and had Staples deliver 2 cases for us. There was a sale at the time...something like 2 cases for $8.00, shipped free for rewards member. It was so great!! I did not need the room number, just hotel name and addy, ressie #, and arrival date. It was marked in the computer and we got it instantly at check in. I ordered 4 business days before arriving. I would do it again!!! :sunny:

Maybe they're flying in and using DME, so with no car they have no way to go offsite to do any shopping.

We always pack water due to sensitivities to sulfur and salt. We pack one case (up to 35 bottles) in a few large plastic bags in a pilot size suitcase, and have an extra suitcase coming home. The only airline to give us problems was Song. Jet Blue has never been a problem as they allow 3 suitcases per person and a 75lb. weight limit. One thing we have found is that if we do curbside check-in there is never a problem. Is it a pain to lug extra suitcases full of water, yes! Do we know we can purchase water in Orlando and possibly have it delivered free, yes! We always rent a car and wind up stopping at a store anyway. But is it worth it to have a miserable vacation or wind up ina hospital because of allergies, NO! So we do what we have to do and lug the water we know we will not have problems with from home.

I still can't believe it....but we actually did this in July! It worked out great! DH thought I was crazy though. I just wrapped the case of water in a heavy trash bag and put it by itself in a child's size...( carry on size) suitcase . I did check it however and never was asked any questions. No problems at all with it :)
