How do you make it seem different?

We are headed back to WDW in May and my husband is well less than thrilled to be going back (we did Disney 2 years in a row , took a year off and did and cruise and now we are headed back). We stayed at SOG the first year and then ASMo the next. I have booked POP (the others didn't interest me) but would love some ideas on how to make it feel less like we are doing the same trip all over again without the kids (DS7, DS4) and I sacrificing our beloved Parks and rides. We need some ideas to help convert Daddy into a Disney nut like the rest of us.

Thanks so much

Be sure to try something you haven't tried before... let him golf or something away from you guys for a few hours that he really likes... (don't know if he's a golfer .. that's just an example) is he military or ex (you mentioned SOG) if so see if he can be part of the flag ceremony thing at MK (5pm every evening) Have him pick a restauraunt he'd relly love... Make a day trip to the beach or something...

Just throwing a few ideas... some of which I am using this year w/ my DH (our 3rd year in a row)

Hope this helps

Staying at a different hotel really helps. It also helps to give a day off for every 2 days at the parks so everyone feels refreshed. Rest & feed the kids often so the kids don't get irritable. Depending on your DH you might throw in a day at DD's movie theater or a day of fun riding a boat from the Polynesian, they also offer daytime fishing trips that lots of guys might like.

Im taking 3 EpCot tours this April, Flower and Garden
In Aug I'll be going back w/DS
and in Nov Im celebrating my 50th, Food & Wine, MVMCP

so yes I'll be spending 3 separate vacations at WDW but there's something different about all of them

that's one other thing I promised DH this year.... I told him every 3rd day I'd be sure he wasn't required to be with us at the park (if the kids and I decide to go) and anyone who wants to stay w/ him... DD & I are usually go go go and he dislikes that...

We're trying some restaurants we've never tried before, though we are also including some tried and true favorites. DH is taking a Segway tour around Epcot. We're trying POP for one night at the start of the trip before our package deal starts at YC. We know we like YC, so we're trying POP just to see what it's like and to have a new place to explore.

Do some tours!!! They are really great and very interesting!! Leave the kiddos at a kids club one night and go out on your own...there are so many things to see and do at Disney that a lot of people never know about.

My husband "likes" Disney...this is our second year in a row...but he made it clear that we are taking at least a year off from Disney... silly man...doesn't he know who he married?! No years off, more trips planned...secret trip already booked for New Year's Eve at Disneyworld!!!:cool1:

a year off...I tell you...:sad2: NEVER!!!!;)

My DH is a bigger Disney nut than I am, so luckily I don't have to convince him. Sometimes I have to convince myself, though, because I like doing different things. Rent a boat, go to Pleasure Island, go offsite and do something spectacular like Discovery Cove, eat at some of the different or better restaurants...there are lots of things.

For me, I don't consider a trip a vacation unless I get to relax a little, so make sure you plan to just lounge around the pool a day or two.

You didn't say anything about his interests or personality.
I want to go to all of the "behind the scenes" tours next time I go to Disney. This is of no interest to my wife. So I will do the tours by my self and she and the children will go their way for that time. This might be of interest to your husband also.

I guess I am lucky. My DH is a major Disney nut. If it were up to him, we would go several times a year. We started out going for our honeymoon, went once a year since. Last year he insisted on a 2nd trip for just me and him. We are going in 52 days, and he is already talking about taking another trip in October. :rolleyes1

I guess the best thing to do is think of things he DOES like to do, interests that he has at home, and try to find something similar in Orlando in general that might interest him. Maybe a helicopter ride, Boggy Creek airboat ride, maybe that Richard Petty Speedway racing experience at Disney. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wd...ichardPettyDrivingExperienceDetailPage&bhcp=1

For us, this will be the first time we're going for back to back years. We've been reading the Unofficial Guide and the Passporter a lot. We discuss all the things we've done, then all the things we *haven't* done, even if it's just exploring an Epcot country more than we've done in the past. We talk about taking our time looking down Main Street in MK at all the history and architecture. DH bought me a book about Walt Disney that gave a lot of insight into the building of the MK, so we'll be looking for things that we read, which will be new. Funny because we have probably seen some of this stuff numerous times, but it didn't have meaning to us then.

If your DH doesn't want to tour the parks as much as you do, can you split up? Can you do more park touring while he does something else? Or, while you're in the parks, maybe look for places or moments to "stop and smell the roses" which will really help him appreciate Disney for all that it's worth. There is so much to see in every park that doesn't include the attractions. I'm thinking of a time we were in AK last year and we just sat on a bench eating ice cream and taking it all in. It's not the same as just sitting on any ordinary bench eating ice cream, if you know what I mean. :thumbsup2

I hope you can get him interested! Would he be interested in reading more aobut Disney to get excited? In the Unofficial Guide, there are tons of tidbits by Jim Hill that are really cool to read. We love to look for the stuff he talks about on our trips, too.

Oh and would your DH be interested in looking for Hidden Mickeys? You can do it on your own or order the Hidden Mickey book to get some information about them. We had a blast looking for them last year and can't wait to find more this year. :cutie:

I hope you have a great trip!!

I remember one year sitting on a rock lon the path around the Tree of Life w/DS.
Seems my best memories are walking around the parks, hotels, not necessarily riding the rides
