I am embarassed to say I have never made this. We are having friends over tomorrow night and I thought about just having meatballs in the crockpot and then making a baked ziti or something. I imagine its easy but have no clue. :guilty:

Thanks.

I make mine with rigatoni instead of ziti, just because DDs like it better, but either will work. Mine is super easy, don't know if this is what you're looking for. But here it is:

Preheat oven for 400 degrees;
Boil a 16 oz. box of ziti; put in a 9x13 pan, add a jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce to pan and a 15 oz. tub of ricotta cheese. Mix together. Then top with 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese. Cover with aluminin foil and bake for about 30 mins. My girls love this. Hope it helps.

DH just cooks the sauce (he uses store bought most of the time) and pasta, he puts it into a baking dish, adds cheese and bakes (similar to lasagna). It's really easy and tastes great.

That sounds so good! I copied it and added it to my recipe folder on the computer. Can't wait to try it out!

My recipe is very similar, however, I will add some eggs, parsley, oregano and garlic to the ricotta cheese before I mix it in to the pasta. It makes it a little more "fluffy" and also, makes the recipe go further. Depending on how many people I'm feeding I'd use 3 - 6 eggs.

I do it pretty much the same way as momx2 except that I mix the mozzarella in with the riccotta. I sprinkle Parmesan over the top then. Gotta love a one pot meal. ;)

Boil 2lb. ziti. brown 1lb ground beef. In a bowl mix a 2lb 14oz. container of ricotta with 1 egg, salt and parsley. In a lasagna pan mix pasta, beef, ricotta mixture, and gravy(sorry sauce, I call it gravy). Put extra sauce on top and cover top with Mozzerella. cover with aluminum foil and Bake in oven for 1 hour on 350 degrees. 15 minutes before done I take off aluminum foil.

I was just going to post this exact post....I use one 1 egg for each pound of ricotta.

Would you share how you make your gravy please.

Just made this on Tuesday night...I make with sausage

16 oz. Ziti( i like rigate), uncooked
about 26-oz. jar spaghetti sauce, divided ( make my own, but in a pinch use jar)
15 oz. ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley or 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
1 egg
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 lb ground mild Italian sausage, fried and drained

Instructions:

Heat oven to 375°F.
Cook pasta according to package directions for 9 minutes; drain.
In large bowl, stir together hot pasta, 1-1/2 cups spaghetti sauce, ricotta cheese, 1-1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, parsley, egg, oregano, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Add sausage.
In 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish, spoon pasta mixture; top with remaining 1-1/2 cups sauce.
Sprinkle with remaining mozz and Parmesan cheese; cover with foil.
Bake 25 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Uncover the last 5 minutes
10 servings (1 cup each).

I make my own gravy, I'll tell you how I make mine -

I make two different kinds. The first is the OLD FASHIONED way!! During late August we buy bushels of plum tomatoes, we boil them in drums, then put them through a machine that takes the skin off and crushes it (the machine is very old from italy), they get put into mason jars with basil and salt then the mason jars go into 55 gallon drums filled with water and have to boil for 4 hours. Then the sauce or gravy is ready to cook with.

The easier way to make gravy is to buy crushed tomato and tomato puree in cans from the grocery store. I use both so it's not too thick, not too thin. First cover bottom of pot w/olive oil, I put in garlic and onions and cook them for a few minutes, then add the canned tomatoes and cook. Sometimes I add meat for flavor, sometimes not. Put in basil and salt and simmer - I simmer mine for a couple of hours.

i can share my "fast gravy"

i chop and onion and a few cloves of garlic, saute in olive oil,,be careful not to scorch the garlic or it will get bitter..keep the heat low..add any spices you like..I add fennel, oregano, basil, parsley, salt, pepper (all to your taste)...heat with the oil to release all the fragrance..

add one large can of crushed tomato and if you like it chunky, some fresh tomatoes..i simmer for about an hour and YUM!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I read how do you make BAKED ZITS??? I thought now that is GROSS! ; )

Thank you for the recipes. I think I will pick up the stuff and make this tonight. Tomorrow I am making cream of broccoli soup, and with the leftover macaroni and cheese, we should be all set for the rest of the week!

(we normally don't eat many leftovers, but there are some dishes that are just better warmed up)

Ok, now I'm hungry. And since I'm working tonight, I can't even make baked ziti. I think I'll make some over the weekend.
