How do you lose weight?

Fad diets and gimmicks don't work. The only way to lose weight is to burn more than you consume! Keeping well hydrated and eating 5-6 smaller meals a day is much more beneficial to you than 3 meals a day.

You also should do intense cardio at least 4 times a week and add in strength training/weights into your routine as well. The weights help build muscle which is way better than fat!

Give up sugar laden sodas and at the very least drink diet. Drink at least 8 huge glasses of water a day!

Sometimes a personal trainer can be beneficial as well. They have great ideas on how to break each plateau that you hit. They can be pricey though.

Talk to a nutritionist if possible about foods to eat that can help you lose weight.

It's not about willpower it's about lifestyle changes that you can live with forever. That's the bad thing about diets per se.......once you lose some weight and you haven't changed all of your lifestyle it comes right back on!

I also second the sparkpeople website on the 1st page of this thread! It is wonderful and they even have a lot of fast food stuff and it's calories on there. It finds out how much you want to lose and by when and then calculates how many calories you should eat each day. You can track the calories and the water and the exercise. I lost 4 pounds just using that website!

ITA with everything HYDSTER has said :thumbsup2

The SPARK website is awesome. They will email you daily with tips/ideas/suggestions for you. :)

This is absolutely about LIFESTYLE CHANGES for sure. Once you have a plan in place that works for you, that is it for LIFE!!!:thumbsup2

Burning more than you consume SUMS IT ALL UP. If you eat a calorie laden meal, then as soon as you can, GET TO THE GYM and do some cardio and burn that meal right off. :thumbsup2

I also agree with strength training esp in women. I go daily to the gym, every other day I w/o with weights and opposite days I am either on the Treadmill of Elliptical.:thumbsup2

Personal Trainers are fabulous. I hire one every season(through our gym) for 5, 1 hour sessions. She tells me the latest and best exercises for ME. I get weighed and measured. Then tell her my concerns and we go from there. She could tell just by looking at me last April (after my Disney Cruise) that I was consuming more carbs than I should, due to the extra weight around my waist...:scared: ..Well she gave me fab diet tips as well as exercise tips and I got right to work on that...it was a bit of a struggle but it is ALL GOOD NOW!!!:goodvibes

You can do it. Hang in there. It is very empowering once you get a hold on this new challenge in your life.:thumbsup2

since 1989. :thumbsup2 After my kids, I went back and it has been good for me. I still have 10-15 to get off and it's taking A LOT longer than anticipated, but I'm working on it.

A good friend of mine does Jenny Craig after gaining 70lbs.with her 2nd baby and seems to be losing the weight quicker than me at WW, but the frozen food (although very good-for diet food ;) ), doesn't fit with my lifestyle. I'm always on the run.

ETA: I wanted to add one more thing to my above post....

TRY NOT TO EAT ANYTHING AFTER 7:00PM. I went to Weight Watchers and lost 60 pounds with them years ago after having kids....their tips was IF you were really hungry and a glass of water does not help...then GO TO BED FOR THE NIGHT.....seriously, this works, not eating after 7PM!!!:goodvibes
