How do you like to grocery shop?

I enjoy grocery shopping.

I go once a week and I strictly buy what’s needed for the meals I plan for the week. I ask everyone before I go if they want something and I’ll buy their requests. If there’s something on sale that’s a great buy and especially if I have a coupon for it, then I’ll make an exception and buy it. It takes a lot of planning to shop this way, but it’s worth it to me.

I mostly enjoy grocery shopping, as long as it's not super crowded to the point it's hard to get around. Costco and Winco get like that on the weekends.

5:30AM as I type and dearly miss my 2AM to 6AM bicycling rides to our former 24hr Walmart for my grocery shopping. Quiet, awesome star studded sky, no traffic, selections had been replenished or in the process, just serene. Now it's daylight and crowds yet still as early as possible and since the front basket doesn't hold much frequent visits sometimes twice a day.

It's 1.5 miles to Walmart, 3.5 or 5 miles for Publix and 1.5 or 3.5 miles to the Winn Dixie stores.

I live in a rural area outside the zone for delivery from stores and my store doesn't do pick up. So I shop approximately weekly. Sometimes I have to make a supplemental trip to another store. Even before Covid, I preferred to shop at off times, so I go first thing on a Saturday (weekday shopping doesn't work for me). I used to shop Sunday nights, but since the spring session of hoarding, supply isn't strong enough to support that timeframe. I use the weekly ad and digital coupons to design the bulk of my list, but impulse buys happen too. There are only 2 of us in my household so that gives me some budget flexibility.

I always go in-person, because I live right opposite a supermarket. Also, getting online slots is difficult, especially in this current situation, not to mention that it costs extra.

Usually only once a week. We only have a few stores to choose from--Walmart SuperCenter, Aldi's, and Giant (Martins). I do a big stock up trip every other week, and a fill in trip the other 2. Unless they are predicting bad weather, like this past week. We went on Tuesday, and again yesterday, just for a few things. I do not do pick up, I don't want someone else picking out my food, and I hear too many stories about them substituting things people haven't asked for.
I don't mind putting things away, but we belong to NCP (national consumer panel) and I have to scan the UPC codes with my phone and submit the shopping trips. It pays me in points, which quickly add up to gifts/gift cards, I love that part!

My husband does the cooking. I’ve tried, but after a few very terrible attempts, I’ve been permanently banned from the kitchen!

We get groceries delivered and he makes me a weekly list. One or the other of us occasionally runs to the store if we’ve forgotten something or realize we need something, etc.

I started getting the grocery delivery because of the pandemic, but I may never go back to regular grocery shopping again (especially when it’s below zero like it has been this past week).

Hubby goes to one store about every 3 or 4 weeks. Before the pandemic, we would go together about every 2 weeks and I would sometimes stop at one on the way home from work to get things that couldn't be found at the store he likes to go to. Both are Kroger but on different sides of town. After the pandemic only he goes since I'm older (I'm 64 he's 50) and it was better for one person to go instead of two to keep the number of people in the store down. We have a big upright freezer and pretty big pantry plus a full basement, so he just buys what is available as far as meat, a couple of gallons of milk and a few loafs of bread and we freeze all of it and store unperishable in the pantry and in the basement if necessary. I only go into work one day a week now and work from home the rest of the time. I will stop by every once in a while to get fresh veggies and fruit if I'm getting low on frozen. We can't order on line and pick up in our area, the store seems to never have any times available when we check and always seem to be out of the things we want. When hubby goes he subs things. There is no delivery where we live except Amazon and maybe Wal-Mart.

Pre-pandemic, my husband and I would go out together every Sunday morning to Aldi and Wegmans. Then I’d stop in at the Aldi very close to my work several more days a week for produce. I have a loose menu plan and list for the week, but there are occasional impulse buys.
Since I no longer have a job and my husband works from home, I go out about once a week during the week to both stores on my own. I use the same loose menu plan and list, but I need to try and get d much produce into the refrigerator as possible so that I don’t need to go out between weekly trips. I miss passing a store 5 days a week.

(For 6 with a townhome kitchen) So, I go for 1 "big" shop and 1 "little" shop per week at different stores. Then, every month, I get an Amazon subscribe and save order that "fills in" things like kcups or spices that are cheaper online. Then, about every 2 months, I place a $35-40 Whole Foods delivery order for all the non-dairy (but tree-nut free) stuff I can't get at my local grocery runs (like Tofutti sour cream, Tofutti cream cheese, Melt vegan butter sticks, etc) - I'm still bitter my home stores don't carry them:))...

Enjoy grocery shopping in person. Usually go a couple times weekly to various stores in our area - never large hauls at one trip. I plan meals on the fly and like to keep a decently stocked pantry and freezer. Usually most meals are from scratch, don't like processed foods and love to cook and bake - just dh & I now.

I used to enjoy going for groceries 2-3 times a week. I'd see a recipe I wanted to try and would need to pick up the ingredients to prepare same-day. When the pandemic began I made a concerted effort to stock up on things, so I now can go two weeks between trips. That means all the fresh produce is consumed the first week because it will go bad if I don't Also I make a list and can more or less go through the aisles of the store without any back-tracking. I'd can get in & out pretty quickly. As a retired guy, I can do during slower times so there's seldom any issue with dealing with crowds.

I'm not sure if I'll revert to my old habits once we're past all of this mess.

Pre-covid, I did my shopping in person once per week on Friday mornings (I don't work on Fridays). I usually hit our local Meijer and I'd go to Aldi every two weeks or so to pick up things that we can only get there.

Now, I do a grocery pickup at Walmart for packaged items on Thursday afternoons. I still prefer to pick out my own produce and certain types of meat, plus there are often "out of stocks" on my Walmart order, so I still hit Meijer on Friday mornings, but with a much smaller list. I can often go through the express lane.

I haven't decided what I'll do post-Covid.

I usually shop once a week. The only time we ordered from Walmart for pickup was in November when I had Covid. I prefer to choose my own groceries, especially produce. I almost always go to Meijer and Walmart. I keep a list for the week, just to make sure I don’t forget anything. But I also buy things that are on sale, and things that look good at the moment. We really don’t have a grocery budget since it’s just the two of us. I do buy a few extra things on the weekends our son is home, he is a long distance trucker and our home is his home base where he gets his mail.
