How Do You Keep Your Kids Healthy?

Hi guys,

I am bringing my nieces and nephews (ages 6, 4, 4, 1) on a Disney Cruise in January. I don't think their doctor believes in flu shots for kids - what can I do to keep them healthy before and once we go?

Drinking ridiculous amounts of water, using Purell whenever they can't properly wash their hands, and keeping their fingers out of their mouths and noses. :D

By the way, this is the first time that none of us got sick before, during or right after the cruise -- I think it was a result of better nutrition, lots of water, and our use of hand sanitizers before and during the cruise. DCL has those packets available all over the ship, and we used them ALL the time.

JJsmama,

I don't believe you can buy Juice+ in the stores. If you go to their website you can purchase through them. I have a Juice+ representative who lives in my area who I order them from. I believe the reason why they don't sell them in the stores is because the shelf life of the products is not very long since they are whole food supplements. They get directly shipped to you from the manufacturer.

We have only cruised once, but from the boards and other cruise boards were fully aware of the health issues. I packed Purell and individually packed antibacterial wet-ones for my my DD-13, DD-17 and myself to carry and use throughout our trip. My DH is a pediatric specialist, and most of the "diseases" that come into our house he brings home. He, of course, has a great immune system, having gotten everything known to man or child during his first year of residency in a Children's Hospital!

I warned the girls to use their knuckles when pushing elevator buttons, to try not to use the handrails on the staircases, basically not to touch anything. The girls thought I was out of my mind!

Their thinking changed when we were in port. We sat next to a dad and 4 children under the age of 6 on the transfer boats from the ship to the port. I asked if he was giving Mom a rest - he reported that she was quarantined, that there were 700 cases of the flu onboard, as reported to them by the ship's doctor!
