I swear by green tea. I drink at least 2 cups of it a day and feel it has saved me from getting ill on multiple occassions when my kids were sick. How about you?? I also never touch my face (mouth, eyes, nose) unless my hands are washed. I also make my kids wash their hands as soon as they step in the door.

I know this won't be a popular response, but the answer for me is nothing. Nothing at all.

I live each day, wash my hands when necessary, touch everything, rub my nose, eye's, whatever without giving it a thought. I don't avoid people with illnesses and I don't take any particular cautions. I do get the regular seasonal flu shot but only because the veterans admin. bugs me until I do. I don't wash fruits and veggies nor do I take any special precautions with chicken or eggs or anything else. I am a true believer in letting my immune system do it's job and so far it hasn't let me down. I do cook "suspect" foods to eliminate the bacteria but that's common sense.

I have about one cold per year and that's it. I may have just been lucky but, like I said so far I have never had a problem. I had more colds back when my kids were young and bringing stuff home from school with them, but even then nothing really bad.

I think it is important to take some precautions but I see the excessive of some of the actions and think that it is going to cause more problems, in the long haul, then it is going to prevent now. JMHO!

I also don't do anything particular in effort to stay healthy. I do wash DS's hands a bit more often than my own and as a result wash my own. My goal is keeping him healthy more so. However, I do take a prenatal and I drink a TON of OJ but I have always done that. I just LOVE OJ. I seriously think that keeps me healthy.

If I feel a cold coming on I will drink some Emergen-C or something but that's about it. I rarely get sick. If I do it's something big not just a cold ... I rarely get colds.

Nothing much on my end - except if I feel a sore throat coming on I gargle with Listerine - that's the extent of my of my "precautions". :)

I don't overdo it with hand sanitizers or things like that. I wash my hands after using the bathroom and whenever it is necessary, but I open doors with my hands, touch handrails as I go down a flight of steps, push buttons in the elevator with my fingers, etc.

Like the previous posters, I'm lucky that I don't really get sick very often. I agree with Goofyernmost that I just have to let my immune system do what it is supposed to do. ;)

I do w/o allot. Every day. Either run, jog, or simply a walk. Other than that nothing else. Living in SoCal, I can w/o easily every single day unlike when we lived back East.

I really wish I could like green tea, BUT nope, I hate it. :headache: Any suggestions, OP, to helping me like g.t.?

Nada. My cholesterol and sugar levels are stellar, I get sick maybe once per year. I eat like crap...lots of fast food, high fat high calorie, lots of carbs, and meat (chicken and beef), almost no veggies and absolutely NO fruit. Drink Diet Coke like it's water.

My mom says I am going to die of Rickets. My doctor says I am doing awesome...could drop 20lbs maybe.

I don't do much either. I use the Purell wipes at the grocery store and wipe down the cart, and carry a mini Purell in my purse for when I'm at the mall, etc., but I've only done that since I've had kids. I give them a multivitamin, but I don't take any. I just don't seem to get sick a lot. Maybe being a pre-school teacher for 6 years helped my immune system out - the first year I worked there, I caught everything under the sun. Now I can pretty much fight it all off.

We just wash our hands when needed, and I think the kids wash theirs more often at school, but that's it.

For being slightly overweight I am in amazingly health and I honestly to not know how. I do wash my hands when needed, take vitamins everyday, somewhat watch what I eat, and execpt the rare cold or when my allergies flare up I do not get sick very often.

I eat at much unprocessed food as possible. I eat most of my vegetables raw or minimally cooked. I don't use anything like mayo, ranch dressing, eat nothing fried, and when I have red meat it is usually bison or venison and not beef.

I also get a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day and most days it is over an hour. I spend as much of that time as possible outdoors doing something like running, cycling, hiking, snowshoeing, or rowing. I do hit the gym at least 3 times a day but try not to spend too much time inside. Even in winter I would rather be outdoors.

I take a multi vitamin, some supplements, and vitamin D daily. I don't drink soda or add sugar and cream to coffee.

I am a believer in using a healthy lifestyle to fight illness from the cold to high blood pressure. I know that the things I do in my 20's and 30's will effect my health in my 50's and 60's. I take the ounce of planning adage to heart and would rather eat right and exorcise now than need to be on 10 different pills when I am older.

I haven't been sick in over 3 1/2 years. I'm a teacher and around kids all day, so I make it a point not to touch my face. That is the #1 Golden rule to staying healthy. I have been sneezed on though and seems like someone in my family is always catching a bug (DH and DS both have colds now). I spray the door handles with Lysol and wash my hands when I think of it, but my big rule is to never touch my face (eyes, nose, mouth) unless my hands have just been washed.

Well, at almost 60, I eat lots of whole grains, nuts, flax seed, fruits, veggies, 100% unsweetened cacao and 2 legs or less meaning chicken, turkey and fish.

Walking now since I am not allowed to jog or run because of recent surgery. Bicycling has also been stopped so no more 60 to 100+ mile day rides. Lift some weights and take a multi vitamin, curcumin and turmeric for arthritis.

I think that being healthy is more than just no colds or good cholesterol and BP and not being overweight. One can be healthy by the numbers but not able to go out and do something physical at 60% to 80% of max. heart rate for an extended period of time.

I don't drink soda or add sugar and cream to coffee.

Boy, do I admire you. That's my biggest weakness - soda. I avoid HFCS and hydrogenated oil as much as possible, but I'd drink Dr. Pepper every day if I could. My boyfriend hasn't touched soda in over two years. I've tried to join him, but it keeps reeling me back in.

I also avoid touching my face and wash my hands religiously. I carry hand sanitizer and use it when necessary. If I plan on traveling to a crowded place like WDW, I take Airborne the week before.

I have an apple a day, drink lots of water with lemon, have one cup of hot tea with no sweetener, and limit my soda to no more than one to two glasses per week. I am working on getting it down to zero.

I exercise three times a week. I would like to increase that but between work, school, and family I am happy if I can maintain what I am doing so far. Once school is completed, I will have more time.

I take a vitamin each day.

I'm a big fan of vit c and d for staying healthy. I start my day out with some OJ and make sure to get some time outside.

I dont do anything really and I have a compromised immune system from asthma and immunosuppresetn drugs and i amazingly rarely get sick.

I dont cut anything out of my diet completely. Ive talked to my nutritionist about that many times and she always tells me as long as I eat a diet that is mostly healthy (fruits, veggies, water, grilled lean meats, fish, etc) that having soda, occasional fried foods adn sweets is no big deal at all.
Even drinking 1 soda/day Ive lost 45 of the 60lbs i gained from 3 years of prednisone.

So basically, I eat a balanced diet (with some treats thrown in here and there), and do 10 minutes of aerobic (all im allowed to do) and 35 minutes of non aerobic exercise at least 5 days/week. I dont use hand sanitizer, I dont take vitamins or supplements or any of that stuff.

The only time I am at the doctors is for routine checkups pertaining to my asthma, arrythmia and allergies unless its for an asthma flare. I dont get colds, i dont get the flu (knock on wood), etc.

I had my tonsils removed! Last year I was getting sick with colds or tonsilitis every few months. I had them out 6 months ago and haven't been sick one day!

I also Germ-X my hands several times a day. When you work with kids, you can't sanitize enough.
